I had a spec stage 3 on my 1.6L and it slipped way before it should have. Those clutches suck, no other way to describe it. Get an ACT and be done with it.

How long have you had the new clutch? I have a stage 2 that was slipping when I first put it on but for now it's holding great. I guess it needed to be worn in.

I just smoked the spec stage 3 that was in my camaro. It is rated for 675lb-ft at the flywheel, and I only laid down 480lb-ft on the dyno the last time I went. Granted, I did change the cam since the last time I went, but it should have only put me at about 510lb-ft. I think they just overrate their clutches. This is also an 11.5 inch clutch.

OK guys, thanks for the advice and help. I'm gonna start a new thread in the regular forum to keep working on this!

Damn, looks like SPEC is a clutch to avoid.
|
I've heard bad things about Spec in the Miata community, but the Mustang folks and VW folks use them w/o much complaint. Again, I've no problems with mine...yet.
|
I had a SPEC in my AWD Eclipse....held like a champ..but hey maybe they just sucks for miatas
|
I just installed the stage 4, it is extremely stiff for the pedal feel, about 400 miles on it now, so far so good. Sucks to drive on the road, but holds extremely well. I will be able to test drive to the max tommorrow, so I will report back on how this one holds up. I am also going to install the act in the next few weeks in the miata, so I will also report back on this clutch.
Edit: Went and hit it in my camaro today, the stage 4 holds up to the abuse a lot better than the stage 3 did. So far so good. |
Uggh. Not looking forward to tuning with the Spec in my car. I really want to avoid the ACT. I'm sick of extra pedal effort.
