Up early to take my buddy to the airport. Debating whether or not to go race today, the weekend events really suck compared to WND.

Tried some things Pat suggested but I still need to limit my open duty not to overboost right away. Still playing with 19.5hz and 52ms but it is not behaving much different. I am already down to 35p and up to 60d, still with some oscillation. I will keep playing with it, no need to suggest random settings to me. I will get to where I was with the different frequency but it is taking time.

I also want to point out that if my wastegate used to blow open at 19psi and 7000 rpm with my solenoid maxed out. But now I can hold my wastegate closed past 21psi with less than 40% duty. This shows that with less than 40% duty my new solenoid/can combination is holding the wastegate closed with more force than my old solenoid/can was at 100% duty. So I am not sacrificing spool by having my open duty limited, because 40% duty on this can = 100% duty on a crappy dual port or a single port. Not suggesting that I am hitting my targets in lower gears and rpms or that my PID's are correct yet.

If someone using a real dual port can(not one that doesn't actually actuate the rod in the opposite direction) and a 4 port solenoid wants to suggest different, I am happy to hear. But no bench racer comments please.

Pat's comments are always welcome of course. Thanks for the discussion!

It would be helpful to see datalogs to compare the response now vs before with the old settings.

Regarding the 40% duty maximum, yeah give that a try. With a 4 port you can probably get away with it.

I have not tuned a 4 port before, those inherently have a lot of control so yeah, the "P" term I through out was probably too high, I was thinking of 3 port in my head. I don't like the idea of having a large derivative term because that's what is causing the problems. Typically with PID you tune the terms in a certain order, and in the beginning you don't ramp the "D" term up a ton, if it's not stable without a large D term you fix that problem first, tuning the D term last.

Whatever you adjust the "P" term to, I would reduce the "I" term an amount to keep the ratio between them the same for now. So if you were at P=80, I = 15 and now at P=35, I would drop the I term by 1/2 of so to correspond with the change in "P".

The PID's are labeled in each screen shot at the end of the title for example this one is p70i5d20

This log has an open duty of 78%

This is what my log folder looks like since I started playing with the new solenoid/can combo.

For looking at your logs, I would use the settings from your last datalog you posted, but turn the D term off, and get the P and I terms dialed in. I assume you have read about PID a bit and understand what each term does? Anywas I would keep the P and I terms from last lop, D = 0, get that dialed in as a PI system, and once it it working ok, then slowly add the D term in to stabilize it and minimize overshoot and rininging. Right now you have wayy to much D term, not enough I, and I'm not sure on P term because the D term is dominating everything.

I set d to 1 as I don't like having any of them at 0. I usually start with p100 i1 d1. I will log, and adjust when I have the chance.

But p and d won't log ok, ok sorry.

Kind of a slow day, I decided to shift mellow after missing 3rd on my 3rd pass. Ran consistent mid 13's, somehow managed to win the first elimination round on a red light. I actually made it all the way to semi finals, lost runner up to a coin toss. Overall I am very happy tonight, now I have 2 semi final trophies. I am still not hitting my boost target in 3rd right away, but close. I will post a couple logs of my pulls in the next few days.

And this for Vlad.
It is hard to see but it dialed 11.5

Logs of my 4th and 5th pull 2 nights ago, didn't change my PID's for the last pull. Should'a raised my dial in a tenth though.

For the record my lazy snail MK Turbo over shot my boost target in 1st gear at 6000 RPM reaching 20.8 PSI with a maximum of 35% boost duty.

Not much of a fakebooker but one of the guys at the track said I was in a video on there. I found a link, not sure how to edit it but I am in the right lane on the 4th run.

At 1:11 for Son's Run

You had him off the line. Well done.

0) Copy the FB link to the video (after clicking "show link" IIRC")
1) Go Advanced
2) Tap FB icon
3) Paste link inside tags
4) Remove all of the pasted information Except for the number at the end. Also remove the slash after the end

That should do it.

Like this.

click to play

Well, in this case your way worked better, as was not open to sharing.

Well, I'm 62 myself. That's why I need to get to the track before I'm too old. So far, I can still catch the rear end if it tries to step out (I guess fairly easy in a Miata). But for how long?????

Dang you'd better get out there, got almost 2 decades on me. I guess I was more thinking of Savington and Miataman.

Carry on young man.

See, you're not the only one

Ok I was saving this for the next time someone suggested Pat move his wheels forward.

That looks like it was a pain in the butt to do.

Nothing too special today, did get a nice 60' time though. No good logs as I said screw it today and ran open loop. Supposedly a Z06 that I beat (yes I swear, ) said he had a video and would send it to me. We shall see if he sends it.

Sorry if you already covered this but...do you beat 5.0 mustangs yet?

I would have to say that something is wrong with me or my car. So the correct answer would be that I used to beat new 5.0 mustangs. I will be posting details on my engine build soon in my build thread.
Could just be me though, most likely.
