I'd be more concerned bout your 5sp haha

Seriously though, my local drag strip is notoriously slow. I think this was the first time there was not a good headwind.
I wonder how much unicorn semen is left in my motor now

I do have a spare 5 speed now and there is another one for sale in San Ramon for $100.
My tranny is so noisy, like it's complaining all the time.

So what are the time-based safety equipment rules, anyway? Helmet, presumably? Roll bar for under 13.5? At what point do they want driveshaft loops and scatter shields?

They won't let me run again till I get a sfi 3.2a/1 jacket, aftermarket turbo thing. The track I go to uses NHRA rules, what I find online says faster than 13.99 requires helmet I guess. I was all over 14.00 and even ran a few 13.7 passes and they didn't mention a helmet. Don't even think I had a roll bar then.

that's nuts.

come here to Sac where you can go as fast as 11.5 with nothing but a helmet

Huh, weird. I just went and looked it up, and sure enough, there it is in the NRHA rule book.

I've occasionally pondered going up to Sears Point for the wednesday thing -- I even own a fire suit, but it's got an FIA rating not an SFI one, so wouldn't be legal. Ah well, my transmission would probably hate me for it anyway.

I'd say 16,000 @ 220whp, 10,000 @ 236whp, 6,000 @ 254whp, 5,000 @ 276whp to be exact. But I feel like miles don't really mean much, at least not as much as WOT time. To be fair I've only done about 25 drag passes (mostly 1/8) and 2 autocrosses at 250+whp. And of course the obligatory minimum 1 WOT pull per day, lol. I have to keep adding more power to compensate for the compression dropping

All of this is correct at Sears Point, come out codrus, I will be there next Wednesday. They won't bug you about 13's until elimination and you try to put that time on your window.
Convertibles 13.49 or faster require a roll bar with side bars, but a permanent mounted hardtop is not considered a convertible.
More rules for cars faster than 11.99 and slicks. Might be slicks that require driveshaft loop.

On the subject of failing 5 speeds.
How does it usually go?

A. Pops out of 3rd & 4th and you have to hold it in gear. Annoying but at least you can get home.

B. Input shaft spins but output shaft does not. More annoying, now you need a tow home. Basically shafted!

C. Case splits open and spits hot parts at you through the floor. Downright dangerous, with risk of severe shrapnel wounds.

Or
D. All of the above.

B. You put your foot down and it strips all the teeth off third gear, it goes ZING! rattle-rattle-rattle-rattle and then if you're unlucky it jams.

I have a roll bar, no side bars. It makes 340 at the wheels, so should (in theory) be capable of much faster than 13.49. Of course, I've never done a drag strip pass in my life, and with Rivals and a bunch of rear camber I'm sure it wouldn't launch particularly well.

Ah yes, zing, rattle, rattle. I am familiar with that sound, thanks.
You will be way faster than 13 seconds unless you spin the tires the whole time. I would offer my jacket but I think we would both be in the gear jammers class so we both need one.

I have heard anecdotal reports of jamming, although I think it's usually after the car has stopped and someone is trying to push it. I parked the car under the bridge, got it towed into the paddock, and then towed it home. This was at Miatas @ MRLS in 2012. This was the first track day I trailered the car to, a week after I'd mounted the winch on it, so getting the car home wasn't a problem. It was a bit of a scramble to locate a 6-speed and install it and the 3.9:1 before the next autox event 2 weeks later, though. (Later went to 3.636, much better with the 6-speed)
