Went to the drag strip for the first time, broke into the 12's

Made 7 passes throughout the day and was logging and tuning between runs since I had just put a HP fuel pump in and was rich as hell. Finally got into the 12's on my 5th run and it certainly has more in it with more tuning and a better launch. I was getting wheel hop like crazy due to old stock diff bushings, stiff springs, 2.5 degrees of camber and 205 street tires. This was in 90+ degree air temps at 12 psi.

I am #17

Nice. What setup you runnin?

sbrian2 09-19-2010 07:27 PM

It is in my sig, this was with the '90 obviously.

joe, that is very VERY impressive, that engine block is dialed, pure gold!

Nice dude! Get some video footage for us.

awesome I hope to break into the 12s too one day.

How much boost are you running/approximate/guesstimated power?

sbrian2 09-19-2010 10:31 PM

12 psi, probably 240 whp? Really don't know since I have not had it on a dyno.

longuyen88 09-19-2010 11:31 PM

Wow I am very impressed at your time with only 12psi on your setup. I have an S6 at 12 psi but only ran an 8.8 on the 1/8 with r-comp tires. LOL. I suck.

You will find that Miatas have a problem with wheel hop on radials. Slicks seem to make the wheel hop go away, and you will go much quicker.

any thoughts on slicks vs DRs?

obviously slicks are better, but I'm always afraid of breaking stuff

I have used both, and the drag radials I used still wheel hopped pretty bad.

JayL is using a different kind of drag radial that is much better than the tires I was using. He said that they did not have a problem with wheel hop. They were Mickey Thompsons, and are one of the more popular choices in competition that require drag radials.

Wheel hop can be very hard on your car. It is like having an impact gun on many components of your drivetrain and chassis.

This is very, very true. Slicks with a true wrinke wall will be less demanding on your drivetrain.

I've got a set going on my 15x7's very soon ;)

damn that is impressive. I wonder what your times would be with drag radials

sbrian2 09-20-2010 08:43 PM

Not my best run of the day, but not horrible either.

Nice, is damn fast for 12psi. What were you up against in the 12sec run?
