Which Boomslang wiring harness to get & a few E-Manage Ultimate Q's
 

Hey guys, the Greddy E-Manage is the best sub $1,000 option to stay STR legal and I found a used one for a really good price that I snatched up.

It didn't come with anything so I'm about to buy the Boomslang harness but I want to confirm that I should get the knock sensor and Intake Air Temp version vs the knock sensor and coolant temp or IAT and coolant temp.


Also, it doesn't look like there's a spot to wire in power so I'm assuming that it will pull power through the Boomslang harness?


Finally, will I be able to delete the rear o2/check engine light with this thing and maybe run a wideband o2 sensor back there?

I haven't found any way to delete the 2nd O2 without throwing a code.We have emission testing where I live, so I leave mine in and welded another bung for the WB. The code doesn't affect performance, it's just a nuisance.

The shop that's going to be tuning it said they'll pull the o2 readings from the tailpipe so I'm good to go there. I read a bunch of people having problems with the knock sensor Boomslang popping check engine lights and the tuner said that using the OEM knock sensor during tuning is like banging a prostitute so I went with the water temp/IAT version which should be here on Thursday.

I would really like the tuner shop to dial in a cold tune but he said that I would really need to leave the car for 3 days to give him enough time to let it cool down each time to get enough pulls to dial that tune in. He did mention that we can take some safe educated guesses on the cold tune and see how it runs.

I'm pretty sure I've read that the reason the cold tune is so poor on these cars is that they run SUPER rich during it but he was surprised when I told him that. Can anyone confirm that the cold tune issues especially below 3,000 RPM on the factory tune for these cars is in fact that they run dumb rich?

The EMU is only going to be doing anything when in boost, and I assume you're not going to be doing that during warmup.

No, in my experience they enter closed-loop mode rather quickly.

Well I guess I'm not the only one trying to use a EMU for an ST class. I assume that you have an NB since your in STR I have an NA that I run in STS. Note that Street touring classes don't alow turbos and when you autocross the car is only running for about a min on course and about a minute before hand normally hence his intrest in a cold tune. I have back burnered my EMU after making the harness since computers with 64 bit window programs will not support the EMU drivers without some sort of work around, so let your tunner know if he has not worked with EMU before. I'm familiar with Autox. It's also been my experience that even if you are near the top of your group and you've just come in from working a corner when your class starts, there still tends to be sufficient time to run the engine for a while get it up to operating temp.




Have you tried installing a 32 bit OS inside of a VMWare virtual machine? I use this trick pretty frequently for really old code that just blatently refuses to run under 7-64.

To be fair, however, the number of applications which I've been totally unable to run natively is pretty small. Often times it's just the installer that fails, and so if you lift a complete, working installation from the /Program Files/ directory of a 32 bit machine, you can drop it into a 64 bit machine and run it in compatibility mode. (Obviously, if there are important registry entries, you'll need to deal with that as well.)

My interest in the cold tune comes from the fact that I daily drive the car but it only takes me 5 minutes to get to work, so during the week almost %100 of the time I'm driving the car it runs like total ass.

I'm my region's instructor chief so the car stays nice and warm from taking new people on ride-alongs all day :)

Speeding is correct, no boost.

My tuner has a bunch of experience with E-Manages which is one of the reasons I'm going with him.
