2001 and emu
so i want to put a blower or turbo on my 01. In NC where i live we have obdII plug in inspections and no tailpipe test. Will the EMU effect that? When they plug into to my obdII port will it read the e manage at all or will it just read right off of the OEM ecu? I would figure it wouldn't be a problem as long as the emu isn't causing any malfunction lights. Anyone have any experience with this?

I'd talk to Gary @ Trackdogracing.
He has E-manage ultimate in his car. And a few others. From some converstations I've had with him it can run in full stand alone or as a piggy back. If it was a piggy back setup then it would still put out OBDII codes.

An EMU is really little different from running Powercards, Voodoo boxes, or even a parallel Megasquirt in this regard. It's not going to change the way that the stock ECU communications on the OBD-II port one bit, because it doesn't come anywhere near that wiring.
By itself, it's not going to cause any CELs, either. The key point is that you not do anything to really **** off the stock ECU and make it throw a code. If you disconnect an O2 sensor, for instance, there's a code. But more subtly, you also can't go doing things like throwing vast amounts of fuel at it without also instituting an O2 sensor clamp, or the ECU will start complaining about things like fuel trim out of range, forward O2 sensor stuck rich, no transitions on rear sensor, etc.
Obviously this is doable, as there are plenty of Power-carded cars running around CA passing emissions tests. At least, the ones that haven't blown their engine yet.

Yea what Joe said. I learned everything about the EMU from him. 
There are plenty of threads about EMU here and 01 Miata because I caused bunch of them. Read up a bit and you will see what you require. Easy to use,
ps if you need 460cc injectors let me know i'll sell you some. got 550's ready.
