I've been thinking about ecu options, and see that the emb instructions don't mention the 1.8 NA's, though boomslang sells a pnp harness for 96-97 miatas. Are the installation instructions the same for my car as the 1.6 miatas?
No the setup is different then the 1.6's. Check the documentation for the 1.8's -- 94/95. It is much closer.
With the 96/97's you'll need to use different ECU pin-outs, but they should be similar to the NB. The rotary dials are set the same, for the hotwire MAF (aka MAS Air).... so 3-a-0
The hardest part will be the pinouts. Get the ECU diagram, and match up the wires bases on your ECU's position. Also you'll have the same 4 injector wires to hookup, rather than the two for the 1.6's.

Dave,
I run an EMB and a boomslang in my '97. I don't trust myself enough to hack up the wiring on my only car, so that's why I went with the pnp harness. I'm still N/A, but I have played with the timing a bit. The EMB works well. Like mentioned above, the 94-95 are different than the 96-97 cars (OBD-I vs OBD-II) but are probably similar enough that you could figure out the wiring.

If I use the emb, I plan on getting the boomslang harness, well worth $190 in my opinion. I just wanted to make sure I could set the rotary dials etc on the unit itself to work with my car.
Thanks!
Thanks!
