EMB on 99 Not Starting

Hi guys..
I have a boomslang harness for my EMB on my 99 miata and the car isnt starting. It just cranks but doesnt start.
I have the resistor soldered in, but the thing I am confused about is the pot settings. I have instructions that came with my emb, but they are copies or print outs and i am not sure how legit they are. (EMB was bought used)
From what the paper said, my pot settings where supposed to be 3 A 0.
is this correct? i saw another thread on here where someone was using the same settings but they where for either a 1.6 or for an earlier year 1.8.
Can someone point me to the correct settings or tell me what its supposed to be?
What else can be the problem? Airflow is supposed to be set at MZ_HW-1, right? any other settings i am neglecting?
Thanks,
Henry

3AO is correct. You might want to open the case and check out the jumpers according to the instructions. If it was used on a VTEC engine, they would have been changed.

hmm.. i checked the jumper settings and they where correct.
I am going to check the boomslang harness and see if they made it incorrectly.. otherwise, it must be a bad emb huh?

I am trying to see if the harness was built correctly... Does anyone have the wiring instructions for the emb on a 99?

maybe archives

1. Check the harness twice
2. Maybe your unit is defective

When I first installed mine, the car would start then die right away because the BS harness was screwing up the MAF signal, so I had to bypass the MAF wire around the EMB back to the stock ecu.

the vtec jumper settings work just fine..and they allow you to have a switched output to drive water injection or an o2 clamp circuit.

ive installed into a 90 and a 94 and the vtec settings worked on both.

can someone please verify if MZ_HW-1 is correct? i looked at a map for an earlier year miata and it had a different "airflow" setting. I havent seen anywhere where this is really discussed.. again i have a wierd/shady photocopy or printed out manual not necessarily from greddy..

Serper3 03-10-2009 03:26 PM

I also just realized that under engine model, it says B6-ZE, BP-ZE. is this correct? i looked at a map for an earlier year miata, 1.6 na and it had just b6-ze. could this be giving me problems?

SamS 03-10-2009 04:09 PM

B6 is the 1.6, BP is the 1.8. MZ_HW-1 is correct for the 1.8 MAF

Serper3 03-10-2009 04:11 PM

so if under engine model mine says "B6-ZE, BP-ZE" is this correct or incorrect? sorry i am kind of confused since it seems like i have 2 different things selected? or is what i have correct?

I'm not exactly sure where in the instructions you're referring to, but follow the bp-ze settings.

Serper3 03-10-2009 04:23 PM

Thanks for the diagram! But by following that bp-ze, do u mean that under engine all it is supposed to say ia bp-ze.. If so this might be what my problem is!!

SamS 03-10-2009 04:26 PM

Your engine is a bp-ze, assuming you have a US '99 with the 1.8L. I assumed you have the same photocopied instructions I have, if not, I can email the pdf to you.

Serper3 03-10-2009 04:30 PM

Yea if u could email them to me it would be awesome! I don't have the publication u took that link from.. If you could email it to serper3@sbcglobal.net it would be great! If u don't mind, I can also post it on the emb yahoo group since its not on there now and I am sire others would find it very useful as well.
Thanks!

email sent, I originally got it from the yahoo group but I haven't been there in a couple years, maybe it was deleted.
