Emu And Maf Removal

has anyone done the maf removal on a NB? I am wondering how hard it would be to do i got some logs but i am not sure how many do i need. Is there any way of putting in couple values and letting the emanage deal with the rest? i know Joe was able to do that on a NA but as we all know he is a genius and most of us are not. Lets get the brain power together and see if we can get rid of this ugly piece of crap. if anyone is already running without it and wants to share the map i and many other members would appreciate it. lets shed some light on this topic.
thanks

Heh. I'm not a genius, I just had a lot of time on my hands. Generating the AFM replacement map was a lot of work, but honestly not much science. Just took a lot of log files, a copy of MS Excel, and some time. If you follow the directions in my writeup, I'm sure you could do the same for a MAF-equipped car. Though honestly, I don't harbor near the same hatred for the 1.8 style MAF- it's small, it's got no moving parts, and it doesn't look all that restrictive to me.

Give it a shot, seriously. If you need help getting started with the number-crunching I'll lend a hand, but really all you need to get started are a whole bunch of logs.

I've done a fair bit of faffing with my MAF removal.

What software version you running?
With the newer software you get a "Sampling MAP".

You set the sampling to your rpm/boost range, TPS threshold, choose MAF and drive.

The only difficulties are the lower numbers, mainly because if you set the TPS threshold low enough to catch these numbers then it inevitably picks up closing throttle de acceleration figures.

Here's the figures i'm running.

Still not been able to get it running well though.

While driving the car runs perfect, it actually feels smoother using MAP rather than MAF.

My problem occurs during on/off throttle and idle.

When i close the throttle it's literally like flicking a switch after a certain point, likewise coming back on the throttle again.

Best way i can describe it is, it's like there is slack in the throttle cable.

I've messed with the TPS and every adjustment and setting i can, i got it drivable, but not not right.

Cheers
Mark

The sampling map is relatively worthless. It records only the single most recent value to occur in any particular cell, and not necessarily at or near the center of that cell.

You really need to extract the data out of the logs. That way you can zero in on a group of datapoints that are near the center of each cell (both in MAP and RPM), weed out the few extraneous datapoints by hand, and average the rest. Ideally, you'll be dealing with hundreds of datapoints for any given cell, not just one as in the sampling map.

FYI... I am running Joe's Airflow Output Map with very little or no tweaks on a Ubercharged 99 motor. Of course I am still using the 1.6 ECU and sensors, so it's not really a NB setup

Good stuff. thanks

thanks for the reply joe and everyone else. i am hoping to run the car smoother with out the maf maybe, i am getting the feeling that when the turbo spools in higher gears like 4th and 5th i am running rich for a bit since it may be sucking more air through the maf than the motor really needs at that speed. also the space that it would free up would be nice to have. i am currently building a new exhaust manifold for the car and am not able to log for about 2 weeks but i will look up old logs and start from there. if i can perfect that sucker i know many people would appreciate the data. also i will re read joes removal guide for the 6th time and maybe i will understand it better.
