Which Greddy?

Which ones can extend the factory injector on times, and retard timing in an '01?

eManage Blue, eManage Gold, eManage Ultimate.

Blue / Gold are the same basic hardware with different code. Ultimate is a whole different animal which is capable of reducing injector duration directly to support large injectors.

I believe the ultimate has the "airflow output map" which would work great for an 01 if you want to remove the MAF.

also... everything you want to know (software, manuals, etc) is on this page:

Jeezus that page is hard to read. Kindly oblige me.

This is for a friend with an '01 who wants a no muss no fuss basic turbo kit. I'm thinking FM's basic voodoo kit - he's willing to spend the money, but he wants the kit to be easy to install. His desires are modest - originally wanted NA mods but I talked him out of it.

However I think the lack of ignition control of the voodoo box and the permanent 4* retard is lame - the latter makes for soggy throttle response off-boost. I don't wanna get sucked in and do a full ECU tune for him, thus the piggy.

What's the basic difference between the Blue and Gold?

Can either one take a MAP sensor input for the injector-on-extension map and the timing-retard map? (No, without removing the MAF sensor for the stock ECU - keeping it in place makes tuning a lot easier)

The reason I prefer indexing off of a MAP sensor is I'm much more used to tuning a MAP sensor based map......

the manuals are down near the bottom.

in the software manual is a list a features... can't help more than that.

Then it's either the FM Voodoo or one of the Bell kits. I'd suggest you consider the BEGI-S turbo kit. For $2,740 you can get that package including the BEGi fuel system (aux pump and FPR) plus the optional intercooler. That's slightly less than FM wants for their non-intercooled Voodoo-I. Use the extra money to upgrade to the stainless downpipe, the braided oil/water lines, buy a boost gauge and a wideband O2 gauge/sensor.

Yeah, an EM would be good for this application. Looks to me like the Gold isn't on the market anymore. Blue and Gold were more or less the same product, just a different color box and different software. EMB will allow you to use MAP to extend injector time and retard timing based on 2d tables. I'm honestly not sure how much boost (or how much HP) the stock '01 injectors are capable of in an electronic-only solution. That's outside my realm of knowledge. But there's no reason an EM and an AFPR cannot co-exist, it's a popular combo, actually.

unless you consider the 01's returnless fuel system a reason :)

The software and firmware for upgrading to Gold are still on the MOHD website. OG also has a thread where he uploaded the files necessary to convert the EMB to gold. All you have to do from there is update the firmware to v1.49 (on the MOHD site).

Yes, you can tune both the injector and timing map off boost rather than MAF voltage. All you need is a pressure sensor. The EMB and EMU have inputs for a MAP sensor. You can use any sensor (GM, whatever) but using the GReddy 4 bar MAP sensor makes the conversion from sensor input to boost a lot easier.

With the EMB, you're injector sizes are limited but with a fuel pump and AFPR, you can run plenty of fuel for 15ish psi. Tuning with an AFPR really isn't that big of a deal.

I thought that too, but was corrected recently by Ben. The trick is to place an inline booster pump outboard of the fuel tank, locate the AFPR back at the tank, and run the vacuum line back there from the engine. Here's the gist of it:

No 15 psi for this guy thanks, not on CA piss gas and with a stock '01 10:1 motor. He'll be leaning on me for support.

5-6 psi is it on a GT2554. I hear the NB injectors are good for close to 200 whp.

What's the point of a SS d/p in CA weather? I've had no braided lines on my car for 7 years, no probs......

I have a BEGI d/p on my '00 and the sucker rubs no matter what shifting I try. I am going to upgrade to the ETD shorty tubie header so that d/p is gonna get modded anyway. But this is why I'm leaning towards the FM kit. I also want it as easy as possible to install.

Nobody yet's explained what the difference in the s/w is between Blue and Gold is.
