HELP!!!!! EVIL EMU 2 step!!!!!
ok well ive been reading up on how to get my EMU 2 step to work on my 1991 miata........ well so far its not working
What do i need to do to have 2 step properly working on my 91 miata? Well so far i have changed the TB with an automatic one but its not off of a miata but yet a mazda engine with the same TB and variable sensor........ The wire colors on the TPS i have are From top of the sensor to bottom: LightGreen-Red Stripe LightGreen-White Stripe Red-White Stripe Black-Brown Strip i connected the sensor every possible way you can!!!! and i read the wiring diagram's for the Manual and automatic TPS and the combination that i came up with is as follows: VTPS Wires///////Stock Wires LightGreen/red - LightGreen/White LightGreen/white - TPS Signal to EMU Black/Brown - Red Red/White - Black/LightGreen The reason i didnt put red and red together is because if you look and the order from top to bottom of the automatic variable TPS and the VTPS i have the colors are not on the same prongs, so what i did is a match the wires from both of the VTPS in order then made the right connections to the stock wiring...... And what i get when i do this is: When the RPM's get to the point where they should 2 step, The 2 step cuts the ignition and my RPM Guage drops to zero and about 2-3 Seconds later got back to where they cut and it repeats the cycle over and over, so its pretty much going from 2500 RPM to 0 then back to 2500 RPM after 2-3 Seconds and back to zero and repeats......... last time i checked a 2 steo is a very quick cut and keeps the rpm's in a close range of eachother repeating the cut very fast????? well in my case NO, I need HELP, PLEASE!!!!!! Thank you. Joey |
First, what is a two-step?
As to the TPS. Since you are retrofitting a variable TPS onto a car which did not have one previously, you need to supply a regulated +5 reference voltage. The easiest one for you to use is the Light Green / Red wire which comes off the ECU at position 2K and goes into the airflow meter at position D. The wiring colors on your TPS do not match the standard colors for a '90-'93 Miata, so you'll need to do some figuring out to determine what is what. Using an ohmmeter, you should find two terminals between which you have a steady ~5k resistance, regardless of throttle position. You will then find a third terminal which, when measured relative to either of the first two, gives a linear ramp from ~0 ohms to ~5kohms when the throttle is opened and closed. This third terminal will go to the EMU's TPS input. To determine the polarity of the first two wires, find the one which has a very low resistance relative to the third (variable) terminal when the throttle is closed, and a high resistance when the throttle is opened. That terminal is ground (Black / Green on your factory wiring). The other one of the first two terminals goes to the aforementioned Light Green / Red wire which has the +5 on it. That leaves one last terminal. Hopefully, this one will give you ~0 ohms relative to the ground terminal when the throttle is fully closed, and infinate resistance when the throttle is opened any amount. This is the IDL switch, and it will go to the Red wire on your factory harness, which feeds position 1N at the ECU. All that being said, you don't need a variable TPS to use the EMU. Just splice the MAP sensor wire into the TPS input and that's good enough. |
two-step = launch control
Same problem I was having. I never got it to work properly, although my pause was more like half a second. |
Chris! So sorry I missed the SD Nationals! I was out of town doing an installation, and I completely spaced out. Some piece of my brain forgot that it was already March.
|
No problem Joe. There oscar blue and laughing lab I brought for you didn't go to waste.
|
hey, chris im about to make your day if you really like to 2 step =]
found the problem....... go to the parameter setting and on the vehicle tab change the "RPM Signal Type" from RPM to Ignition signal and there yah go, your wonderful 2 step will now work!!!!( if you have the variable TPS ) oh and by the way thanks for the wiring advice all i did was change red and black around and thats it for the wiring! so yepp i got it working  |
Darn, I wish I still had some of Joe's beer to send you. I can't wait to try it.
Thanks!!!! |
no problem!

EDIT:
the only problem left with the 2 step/Launch control is when its active (while you are 2 stepping) the RPM Tach will only read between 0-200 RPM until you lauch, assuming the reason is because the TACH is controlled by the ignition voltage...... ?? i will try and see if there is any way to fix or change that..... |
It has been independently verified that 01Turbo is indeed a genius when it comes to 2-step.
WOOOO HOOOO can't wait for the next pro solo. |
haha =]
