Yup. The original KnockSense will drive an LED. $50, plus $25 for a sensor.

hello
I am planning on getting the Knocksense unit. The guy asked me to supply the engine bore he said "Each unit is individually optimized to the engine bore so please supply the approximate bore size in millimeters" i have a 2001 miata and how can i find that out. He said that he might do a discount if more than 25 people are willing to buy. Anyone interested?

Joe Perez 11-27-2007 04:48 PM

The 1.8 Miata engines have a bore diameter of 83mm.

The 1.6 is 78mm, in case anybody was wondering.

Just buy it straight up. You'll wait a lifetime for 25 people to pony up the money. I mean, you're not talking about big thick aluminum radiators for $160 for hecks sake. :)
The knocksense will work with your stock sensor. The bore doesn't really matter, you have to tune it yourself anyway.

There are two adjustments on the KS- frequency and sensitivity (gain).

Boris sets up the bandpass filter to match the calculated knock frequency of the block before he ships out the unit. Then it's up to the user to adjust the sensitivity once the device is installed.

cjernigan 11-27-2007 06:39 PM

Good to know, thanks. Guess that's why it's a tuned circuit out of the box :)

musanovic 11-28-2007 06:13 PM

ordered one (knocksense) we'll see how it works out. it was 53 shipped. good deal.

lol......sorry i had to, MUSANOVIC is a very good friend of mine
cjernigan, can i apply this to my sig please? i dont know why this makes me laugh so much, am i the only one that found it funny?

I have bought older J&S unit with monitor.
Havnt had time for installation yet.

My plan is to measure monitor signal voltage
and adapt this to EMU for ign retard.

Before I will ask J&S guys which voltage range they use
for the LED monitior.

FM is selling a J&S for $150 with wiring and sensor.

'Tis gone. I sure hope someone here bought it, as that was a great deal.

A MS V2.2 is cheaper than that JS unit. Add a knocksense and you've got some serious engine managment. Not another bandaid.
It was a good deal though.

Yeah, but for someone using an AFPR and not wanting to go full-ECU, it would have been nice. Hell, even I haven't manned up and taken the MS plunge. Yet...

Zabac 11-30-2007 03:02 PM

man up!!! lol
i havent even installed my MS yet and im wondering about knocksense
im gonna have to do that, once the motor is built that is, i see no use for it yet

Falk 11-30-2007 03:32 PM

If someone knows the guy who bought the FM J&S,
I have the monitor for this unit and dont use it.

trito 11-30-2007 04:29 PM

oh? Is it the nice round monitor or the ugly square one? If it's the round one I might be interested.

cjernigan 11-30-2007 05:15 PM

Do it Joe. We need someone to build circuits that do all kinds of crazy stuff in the community.

Joe, you're one of the guys I consider a good source of knowledge; no way that I may end up running around with an MS hooked up (mind you one made by my guru Chad:cool:) before you do. You have to take the plunge so I can ask you dumb questions:bowdown:

Speaking of dumb questions: where do I hook up my Knocksense Chad?

Cheers,

Rafa

cjernigan 11-30-2007 05:37 PM

You've got email Rafa.
I'm no guru, i just build them.

In my book you are. You've already proven than when it comes to Miatas one only has to ask you to get answers. BTW, where do I connect my Knocksense tomorrow?

Thanks
