Default 99 NB EMU problems with 2.2 update and logging timing

Before I start, I apologize in advance for the long-winded post. The short version of the story is: I updated my firmware from 1.5 to 2.2 and now the option to log timing is greyed out on my datalog screen. Anybody had this problem with the update to 2.2?

Now for the long story.

I just recently bought a used EMU and installed it in my bone stock 99 NB in preparation for boosting. I also bought a PnP harness from Boomslang which made the install really easy. The EMU was in the car and running with no maps turned on (just passing signals through and logging) for a few weeks before I had my first problem. The was only being driven intermittently but when it started to get warm, it nearly overheated from the fans not coming on. I read about that problem on several threads and managed to fix it by changing my jumper settings, updating the firmware to 2.2 (from the 1.05 it came with), and changing the coolant temp sensor to HN-WT2. Now my EMU temp sensor reads the same as the factory ECU (as verified by my OBDII scanner) and no more temperature issues.

The saga continued when I decided I wanted to log spark timing from the factory ECU before switching over to boosted. Since it is common knowledge that the EMU wont read the NB crank and cam signals, I installed an NA 1.8 CAS in the back of my head and wired it to the EMU crank and cam inputs. Then I went to modify the EMU configuration on my laptop only to find that the option to log timing remained greyed out even when I changed the RPM signal type to "ignition signal" or "crank signal". Later on, I was on my desktop machine playing with the EMU software settings only to find that the option to log timing was available there with the same settings I had been using on my laptop. The only difference between the two machines is that my desktop is running version 1.05 while the laptop was updated to 2.2 when I was trying to solve my CLT and fan switching problem.

After playing with the software some more on both systems, I found that opening up the same EM2 file in the two different versions would show different vehicle configurations. Weird??? Anyone else run into this problem with version 2.2? Is there a bug that I don't know about? If anyone has successfully logged timing on an NB, can you tell me what version of the software/firmware you are running? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I want to get this stock config logging done ASAP so I can move on to installing my 420cc Rx8 injectors and then start installing the turbos.

Thanks,

Dan
