Default Where to begin learning the E manage system?

I realize this is a rather open ended question but I recently picked up a 92 turbo miata as a track car. Right now it's running relatively well but going forward I need to understand the system better.

Any suggestions on simply where to begin learning about the emanage, what it can do, and how to tune it? What software do I need? I'm all for searching the forum but there are just endless amounts of threads that are all over the place on subject matter.

I've got the emanage blue, o2clamp with auto tune and a Zeitronix WB O2. The Zeitronix unit actually has a display unit that also displays my egt probe, boost, and afr. Also running a greddy boost controller.

At my first track day with it, it honestly ran very well. But the boost controller was set on 8psi but both of my boost gauges showed 12psi. After my first session I turned down the gain on the boost controller. That brough it down some, would spike to 11 and then settle to 10psi. I also saw some very rich afr's under boost, in the 9.9 realm. Keep in mind this all from glancing at the gauge at 100+mph on the back straight at VIR. I'd love to be data logging this stuff.

Many thanks in advance.

If you need an o2 clamp, your EMS sucks.

You realize that wasn't a helpful post right? Even if your statement is correct, you didn't offer any supporting information to help someone new to the system understand.

He's not wrong though. I had an EMB on my car prior to going MegaSquirt, so I'm telling you this from an informed standpoint.

The O2 clamp setup was standard operating procedure about six years ago or so, but since then, there have been amazing advancements in what EM systems are available. You might be surprised how quickly and cheaply you could upgrade to a full standalone system.

The Emanage system was never all that good at what it does anyway.

I know, Im sorry.

Basically, trying to turn the boost up on the emanage is just being cruel to yourself. You will be much better off if you go ahead and toss the emanage and get your car running on megasquirt with some nice, big injectors.
Your car will run better, make more power, and will be less likely to explode.

And have full datalogging capabilities. **** the MS3 even has an SD card reader built in.

His post was the most helpful the OP could get. You just don't realize it yet.

He's trying to help in the MT way of helping with tough love.

Anyone who has been around this enough will tell you to just go to the MS at this point. I've done the band aid setup and so have many of the other folks on here and they stink. Just no two ways about it.

Pay a few hundred bucks for some new injectors and an MS from Reverant or Braineack and dump the stuff you have now.

What benefit is good advice if you don't know it's good advice? We're on the internet right? A place where anybody is able to offer an opinion, whether they are properly informed or not. So the only way to know if what you're reading is valid information is to have logical supporting information to accompany it.

I'm not opposed to switching to the MS system, but like any decision that requires spending money and time/effort, I like to understand the details of why one system is superior to the other.

Step one is understanding the system I have, how it works, and what it can/can't do. Then it's easier to compare with the MS system and see the differences/benefits.

No point in fighting the movement though. I'm going to wonder over to the MS section and see what I can learn. I do appreciate the suggestions.

Question though, new injectors were mentioned with using the MS system. Why is that? Is it just for the additional fuel required to support higher boost levels, or something else? I'm running larger 315cc injectors now. Is there a reason they would be incompatible with the MS?

You can run those injectors, but likely the only reason the guy was running those is because the stock computer can't control anything larger than that.

Larger injectors come up so cheaply for sale on this forum that it's simply just a question of injector head room and duty cycle for the boost levels you are at. If you're spiking to 11-12psi I'd be surprised if you weren't running lean at certain points on those 315s.

The reasons to get rid of the emanage are many as indicated, but mostly it's that there is no reason to go to the trouble to use one and I'm pretty sure it will be troublesome to use it versus the MS which is well supported both on the forum and by vendors like DIYAutoTune.

Umm...that's what the search function on this site is for: Miata Turbo Forum - Turbo Kitten is watching you test compression. - Search Forums

Of course I am assuming that most people would make an effort to search and read if they want to know the answer to anything. But my assumptions have often been proven to be wrong.

I say this politely... I am well aware of what the search function is for, it's value, and how to use it. I was merely looking for some advice on where to begin my research for a high level understanding of the system. And let's be honest, the search isn't the end-all-be-all for information. Sure what you're looking for may be out there, but you may have to spend hours reading through hundreds of thread pages on unrelated topics to find it.

Welcome to the real world! We can look it up for you of course, but since I don't get paid to, I'm probably not going to do it. If you want to pay me I'll happily research topics on MT.net for you!

And I've never been bored reading unrelated topics here. The amount of knowledge contained within them is amazing. It may take a bit to find the answer you were looking for, but in the mean time you've found the answer to 10 other questions you didn't know you had.

At no point did I ask you to go do my research for me. I asked a simple question. If you don't know, don't post.

I didn't post a question because I was too lazy to do any research on my own. I asked a question to suppliment and aid my research.

I merely commented that making a comment without offering any supporting information isn't very helpful.

It's not that I (or anyone else here) doesn't know, we just don't see the point of spoon feeding the answer to every simple question. And that was a very simple question. Try the FAQ. That's LITERALLY what it's there for.
