1999 10AE Dynotuned. Good numbers, 225 horsepower.

Got my car tuned last weekend, basically running a Mazdaspeed miata turbo system with FM little enchilada and stand-alone. 14psi, 225 horsepower and 216 lbs-feet of torque. It’s a fun little car!

First dyno run at 8 psi was 189 horsepower and 174 ft-lbs of torque. I’m happy with it. Power feels perfectly matched to the car.

Nice numbers out of a MSM turbo setup, congrats.

The dyno graph make the setup look pretty well maxed out up top. Those 14psi hp & tq numbers really start taking a dive after 6000rpms.

wish you could make spool a little more linear.

Hmmm. I am running a pierburg electronic boost controller. I still want to play with the open loop settings on the MBC more. I was trying to get it so that the wastegate could remain closed as long as possible in the lower rev range so to spook up quicker, then start opening at 14 psi, then at 6,000 rpm, close again.

From my experience, these little turbos really nose dive on boost when they are spun over 6,500 rpms, on a manual boost controller i would lose 2-2.5 lbs of boost from 6.5k to redline. Not anymore.

From 2000-2500 I have the pulsewidths set up to completely close the valve, let no air to the wastegate, to try and get it spool quicker then it opens up around 3000 rpms got the pulse widths set to deliver around 14psi then around 6000 closes again to try to keep the boost from plummeting, it works much better than the turbosmart MBC, which no matter what I set it to, I would lose 2-2.5 lbs of boost on the top...

my tuner wanted to dial in a bit more timing, 230 rear wheel horsepower was definitely achievable he believed, but I wanted to be conservative on it. The 99-00 intake manifold on my 1999 10th Anniversary definitely is the way to go.

Another problem I have had is spark blow out, I am going try replacing the bkr7e11’s with some extended plugs like FM sells. My IAT’s were fine, but I sorta wonder if it would have been better to just dial down the boost to 12 psi and run more timing...

Yeah, 14psi is kinda pointless to make past 6k, that turbo just isn’t going to flow. I would have like to seen what numbers could be made just running 12 lbs of boost.
