Hello guys.

I have a 2003 Miata 1.8vvt
It's been turbocharged using a BEGi Kit.
Garrett gt2556, recirculating valve, front mount intercooler.
Basic kit, works great.

I am using a AEM FI/C piggyback and I'm trying to upgrade to a standalone ECU.

Ideally I'd like to upgrade to a Megasquirt PNP Pro. I can currently get a good deal on a Megasquirt PNP Pro for 04-05 Masdaspeed Miata. Would this ECU work for me?
I know it says it's for the MSM but what makes it so MSM specific?
And does this mean that a MSPNP Pro for an NB2 wouldn't work on a Masdaspeed?

I'd pose the question directly to either Matt Cramer or Ben from DIY Autotune (vendors on this forum). Get the answer straight from the supplier.

I asked Ben. He said I need the MSPNP Pro specifically for NB2.

I just need to know what makes it so specific.
A couple jumpers? Both support the same functions since they're based on the MS3 pro with a pnp harness.
Or is it the harness.
But I've read that you could plug in an MSM ecu into a regular nb2 harness so they should be the same.
I'm just stumped with this one.

wiring is different.
correct (same question as #1).

they make a specific printed circuit board that connects the MS3-PRO board to the connector for your MSM. The NB2 and MSM wires are completely different, so it's not just about jumpers. You'd have to cut the traces off the board and somehow rewire them to reach different pins on the harness connector. I know the 12v power for the MSM is on 4S, but the NB2 is 4AF--that's one of the many differences in the wiring.

THEN, the MSM's ECU activates the Main Relay directly, so you'd have to wire in an ouput to 3H to power up the main relay. Otherwise, the ECU will power up, but nothing in the engine will energize.

Thank you Braineack! This is exactly what I needed to know and I just couldn't find anywhere.

I would've thought it was simply a basemap issue since the MSM comes factory turbo and the NB2 doesn't so they didn't want me to go through the hassle but I was going to get it tuned anyways. Glad I know now why it's not compatible.

LOL @ getting answers for a product from a competitor.
I would buy a Rev/Brain built unit over DIY's any day of the week going forward.

While they use the same circuit board at their core, they're assembled slightly differently. It's more than a jumper change - some components are populated on one and not on the other. Running a regular MSPNP on a Mazdaspeed will leave you without boost control, among other things.

The reverse, running a Mazdaspeed MSPNP on a regular Miata, looks like it is less problematic and can most likely be accomplished with some jumper changes. However, the jumpers you need to change are soldered in place and not pull offs, making the change something of a nuisance.

Could you tell me which jumpers need to be changed?

If desoldering some jumpers is the annoying part and I'm saving about $350 on this ECU it's well worth it for me

Certainly. I will need to know the revision number on the black adapter board to make sure I have the right jumpers for the version you have.
