Anyone have experience with Haltech????
Hey guys I know my post count is low but I read and search more then I post which is almost unheard of I know. But my question is after searching and coming up with almost nothing is do any of you really know anything about the haltech E6K standalone? I understand most will say to go with MS or something similar but I'm getting everything with wire harness for $200 so I can't really pass it up and coming from v8s I'm extremely new to the whole turbo 4 game. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

I am running a E6X on my Protege (1.8BP) making ~350whp. There are a few differences between the E6K and E6X, but I don't know them off the top of my head. I think the E6K can't run sequential injection, which I am. I am also not sure about the trigger setup since I installed a 60-2 crank wheel. The E6K's software only works in DOS, unless they've updated it, which I doubt. Logging is iffy - seems the polling frequency is very low and so the logs are not smooth.
I suggest you use an older laptop that has a 'real' serial port because the usb->serial converters that I have tried didn't work with the Haltech. I know there were at least a couple people who were running the E6K when I installed my E6X a few years ago. --Ferdi |
I had the E6GMX in a previous vehicle. Same as the E6X except is uses stock engine harness connectors.
I'm a few years removed from it, but it was pretty user friendly as far as engine computers go. The Windows-based interface was a nice feature compared to a friend's E6A. For $200, grab it. |
Thanks guys. Yeah I've read on there site I have to run windows 98 or older for it. It's good to know I'm not 100% alone with this thing

I run my e6k software on a brand new laptop (tablet actually) running Vista Enterprise. I use an app called DOSBOX to emulate a DOS VM, and no problems. Its way easier than it sounds (for the non tech/computer people out there)...
I do use a real serial port though in a docking station, as the USB/serial adapter I used didnt work very well either. Best of luck! -SCott |
Thanks for the comment and the dosbox info. I'll look into it. What are your thoughts on the software? I don't have it installed yet

No problem!
The software is great. Does everything you need it to do... just be careful because you can insta-fry things if you make adjustments unintentionally. (coils, etc) |
ok I'll keep that in mind.
