Base timing off, best solution????

So I posted previously in the general section and realized that setting my link to zero degrees to test for base timing was stupid. Obviously if the link is doing it's job the timing would then be zero. Moving On

I set my idle values to 10 degrees, hit it with the timing light. Low and behold I'm retarded by 7.5 degrees. At this point I assume it is either the timing sprocket is off a little (assumptions since I don't now how many degrees 1 tooth equals in degrees timing) or the CAS isn't rotated to the correct position.

Looking for advice on the following solutions.

1) Pull things apart to check the timing sprockets. (I know I should do this anyway, but I really don't want to. Would liek to avoid this if at all possible) Man I wish I had one of those valve covers that allowed the sprockets to be left exposed:vash:

2) Adjust the CAS until 10 degrees is ten degrees. I like it, simple, quick, gets the job done. Allows me to wait until I need to pull the front of the motor apart to check the sprockets.

3) Half assed, but it's my car so tuning won't be an issue since I'm aware of the problem. I could adjust my entire Link ignition curve by 7.5 degrees. Don't even have to get dirty.

Let me have it

Double check the crank pulley is in alignment with TDC. If so, I'd force the ECU to hold it at a certain angle, 10* like you said, then adjust the CAS to match.

I've been off by about 5* before because the crank pulley moved when I did my timing belt last and I didn't notice until I was down on power on the dyno and double checked it.

Thanks brain. The silver lining is that I'll get to see what another 7.5 degrees of advance feels like :brain:
