base turbo map for emerald k3 ecu?
hi, would anyone have a turbo base map for an emerald k3 ecu for a mk2 1.6 engine? cheers

Not many people on here run Emerald as it's not very popular in the US, and I'm not sure the US even got the later 1.6s...
You may have some luck looking for a 1.6 basemap for a megasquirt or adaptronic and comparing the ignition tables and manually making something yourself which may be enough to get it to run as a starting point. Or give Dave @ Emerald a call and ask for help - from what I understand he's very helpful... |
i think your right jonboy, i just said id chance my arm, ya never know. i tried emerald earlier today and they said they would get back to me so hopefully tomorrow i might get a base map from them. thanks.

Confirming that the NB 1.6 wasnt available in the US
It was only Japan and Europe. If I remember correctly, the NB B6 used the same sensors etc as the normal BP4W, just on the B6 block, so you may be able to use an NB8A map as a starting point. But obviously you'll need to still manually tune a lot Also, is it just me, or does the UK seem to have a strange obsession with weird small scale ECU's that nobody's heard of. |

In terms of other ECUs - yeah, we seem to be fickle about ECUs - something will come out, be the best ever for a few years and vanish without a trace. Megasquirt is still fairly popular, but to be honest the MX5 tuning scene is pretty much dead now - most of the forums are full of idiots who want neons and BGWs and making their cars it loud and obnoxious, and don't care about handling or performance :( |
there actually really good ecus, my ecu is in my mx5 for over 7 years and never gave a problem and has loads of good features

exactly, there very popular with the lotus people, lots of rally guys use them too , all the catheram boys use them as well. all the miata boys use ms cause there plug and play but there no better than an emerald really apart from the ease of plugging in a megasquirt.

Yeah, i understand that.
Aust market seems similar, except here it's mainly just a few companies with new products every few years, rather than whole new businesses. Plus, a lot is about timeframe. The "best" ecu option at the time may be crap later on. Adaptronic used to be the big thing here, and for a time it was great. The problem was that then Megasquirt came out for a similar price, with way more features, and with better support. The main ones atm in Aust are: Haltech (exxy, but really good apparently) Motec (if you have deeeeeeep pockets) Megasquirt (moderate price, super supported for DIY) And I think a lot of the rotary guys still use Microtech and Wolf3d gear, but I think they're about the only ones. |
Adaptronic was pretty popular in the UK for a while - at the time there were only a few MX5 specialists, the main one was also the FM importer and chose to supply Adaptronic rather than using the FM Link, so there were quite a few for a while. I ran one for 10 years or so and it worked really well, didn't really have any issues with it but switched to MS3 a few years ago due to the level of support.
Flavour at the month in the UK seems to be ME - although they appear to be focussing on other models (eg. Ford) more than the smaller MX5 market. |
