BipesACU+MAP ECU+RRFPR vs. MS1 V2.2/V3
Hi all,
I don't mean to instigate a flame grilling by pitching a Bipes setup vs. a Megasquirt set up... but I need to pose the question... I have a Bipes ACU, a Performance Motor Research Limited (sounds legit) MAP-ECU (piggyback) and a PLX M300 wideband (with display). Currently not installed and my MX5 (a 1997 1.8 UK) is sitting patiently in the barn. I bought them as they came up at a good deal price and so I grabbed them.. I can probably sell them (maybe keep the wideband?) and get either a Megasquirt MS1 V2.2 or Megasquirt MS1 V3... these (as DIY kits) are really at the top of my budget for engine management. (I know I know - save more save more. But im trying to buy my first house this year and my non-turbo mx is just begging to wake up to some boost after hibernating over the winter...) The question boils down to: Are these Megasquirts, while not the best or newest or most advanced versions, still better than running a Bipes(et al) set up? 'Set up' defined as: Id love (but am not holding my breath too hard) to see 180-200hp at the wheels (understandably difficult with MS and a lot of stock components (understandably probably impossible with the Bipes system)) Stock 1.8 brown top injectors (would be happy to upgrade these though) Stock fuel pump Stock fuel pressure (unless using the Bipes (unless unless using the RRFPR is helpful for the MSquirt?)) Clutch will be upgraded as necassary Intercooled Turbo-to-be: SR20DET T25 or similar So... do i sell the Bipes? Thanks all |
Might be better to stick with the bipes setup and get the biggest injectors the stock ECU can handle.
Dyno with a bipes setup on a 90. https://www.miataturbo.net/dynos-tim...yno-run-10755/ |

Thanks for the reply, perhaps I do go ahead and give the Bipes a go since I have it here on my desk...
Larger injectors (perhaps 305 supra) and see how that does - ill run the numbers through Braineacks fuel flow maths (i made them into a spreadsheet) Unless anyone has any drastic warnings I should heed against using the Bipes |

very much so.
There is a megasquirt for sale here in the UK - Its a MS2 Enhanced, built by Revenant at MSLabs Its not a plug and play, is in a black metal box and has a label that reads: "MS LABS MS2 ENHANCED ECU Mazda Miata 04-05MSM S/N: 10201" Someone over at miata.net advised that this would not be compatible with my 1997 due to the method by which the ECU reads the RPM? Early miatas "...[use the] CAS for rpm reading while 99 and later [use the] cam and crank signal." Could this megasquirt be repurposed for my model?? |
some idiot over at m.net doesn't know what he's talking about.
a new harness would have to be built, but the unit itself should still work. you'd probably be best off building a DIYPNP. |
So better to go with one of the above MS1 V2.2 or MS1 V3 DIY kits than to build a harness to try adapt the MS2 Enhanced?
