Hahaha, much appreciated. I hope this can make CAN communication seem less daunting for people and give them the courage to tackle their own CAN project! ...or just copy mine😎.

Something I would like to do is perfect my design. I want to 3D print an enclosure and do all the wiring internal to that. I want to try to make it a polished product that mounts to the OE gauge locations and comes more or less "plug and play". Maybe I could sell them or make them to order one day for those that don't want to try and take this on themselves.

There's several guys on rennlist who do exactly that - engineer up a thing and sell it to others on the board for a profit. No reason you shouldn't benefit from the work it took to make it happen, and I for one don't have the time to put one together, but I'd love to have one!

I'm looking at doing something similar as a winter project, but would like to put the gauge in a standard 52mm gauge plate/pod. Has anybody found an inexpensive solution for a generic display that is already in that format?

While I could come up with a 3D printed solution myself, I'd rather go with an off-the-shelf option if one exists. But all I'm finding at the moment is either application-specific (I've seen some LCD gauges for GPS info) or is a full-blown universal CAN gauge that is hundreds of dollars (and I don't event want true CAN for what I'm going to be doing).

Replying to sub mostly. But holy ****, thank you. I saved a post about this very thing on fb in like '18-'19 that got lost to time & being deleted. Only theory was that the authors went on to make the canchecked.

So you are just looking for a round 52mm LCD display? Or a display with a housing. I doubt you'll find a display with a housing. Mine is 3D printed, I just asked a buddy to do it for me. Suppose you could also cut a ring out of abs or similar and just affix it to a display.

If anyone tackles something similar please post it up! Would love to see your renditions, and help inspire some more folks to give it a go.

Back in 2017 round LCDs were hard to come by and not cheap, so I played around with just using LED displays.
Proof of concept worked and I got as far as designing a PCB and building v0.1
Maybe when my ADU is done I'll revisit this as the available HW seems better/cheaper now!
