Do I need a standalone or is a F/IC ok?

I have a 1990 with a greddy kit on it @ 5psi no intercooler, I was planning on getting a cheapo eBay FMIC kit. Can I run 12 psi using something like the AEM F/IC or should I go standalone at this point? I have never done EMS tuning and I don't plan on running much more boost I don't really wanna swap out the internals yet! Also at this point would the stock 1.6L injectors maxed out?

Megasquirt is a cheaper and more capable option.

Either build one, or get someone to build you one if you are on a budget. If you are willing to spend $750.00 on a Mspnp it is a great option.

The search button is your friend.

Your stock injectors were maxed out a long time ago, thats why the greddy kit increases the pressure in the fuel rail.

You searched and saw this?

When it comes to engine management, you get what you pay for. I've seen them go for $250 in the classifieds... and there's a reason for that. Save up for a used Link (I've seen full setups for $600) or Megasquirt. There have been several MS's in the classifieds lately from people parting out cars.

Check out CXRacing on eBay. Get yourself one of their IC's and universal pipe kits. You can do everything including a BOV for under $200. If you're sticking to 12psi on the Greddy turbo, you can do fine with 460cc injectors. They come up for sale all the time too.

I work for an auto parts company so getting some stuff was free I just priced out the stuff to do a full FMIC setup by vibrant and laughed my ass off even with a staff discount I was at about $1000 for pretty much what I was looking at on ebay from CXracing for $130 definately goings the ebay route for the FMIC

Scrapped the idea of the F/IC after reading that thread just seems like a higher grade bandaid (elastoplast!!!) either gunna build a MS but I am also going to talk to AEM since we are an authorized dealer and see what they would sell me a EMS for cash up front, might be a nice PnP solution if its cheap if not then I will do the MS. We use a supplier out of California (Dynamic Autosport) and the boys down there sent me up a new Greddy Type-RZ B.O.V as an xmas gift for giving them thousands of dollars worth of business all year which I thought was pretty cool saved me a couple hundred bucks and its one flashy unit! With injectors would it be just easy to get like a RC 460cc injector or should I even bother trying to get an injector out of supra or something I did read on the miata wiki that there are direct PnP injectors from various Fords, Mazdas and Yotas that will work.

I'm being to wonder if you forgot how much you paid me to build your MS....why would you ever suggest a LINK!?!

samnavy 12-12-2008 11:57 PM

You're a good man... and I may use your services again for sure, but just throwing out options. There are still some people afraid of MS.

twistyz 12-15-2008 03:09 PM

from what I have heard MS > Link by far but hey what do I know I am still a noob on EMS stuff, but I hear the MS is easier to tune. I talked to our sales rep at AEM this morning and he told me $600 + cali sales tax + shipping would get me a AEM PnP EMS but I would have to buy it before then end of feb. for $800 I could have this in my hands I think I am gunna jump on this as it was $2200 on my first quote roughly.

Braineack 12-15-2008 03:13 PM

that's a damn good deal for a $1200 ECU.

twistyz 12-15-2008 05:38 PM

ya when he told me that I almost crapped my pants! I love everything about it but the original cost through my work was offensive, but thankfully we sell $10K+ a month of AEM products so they are willing to help me out. Apparently AEM is starting a huge sale too not sure if its just EMS's or if its everything.
