ECU over-voltage protection ... ?
 

Hey,

In the passing years I noticed a few friends ECUs burning up in smoke because of over voltage (as far as I can tell), Haltech E8, DIYPNP, ME221.
The E8 and the ME221 burnt up while driving normally....

The DIYPNP died with a lot the other electric devices in the car (lose battery cables ?)

Bottom line is, How do I protect myself from over voltage ? or maybe other ECUs has over-voltage protection built in to them ?

I use MS3 Basic.

btw I fixed the DIYPNP, on the microsquirt board and the main board too...

Install a voltmeter somewhere that you can see it, and if the voltage is too high then fix it?

In an NA the voltage is regulated internally inside the alternator, but in an NB it's managed by the ECU in software.

If your ECU is a version 3.1+ (late 2014 onwards), then there are exactly ZERO voltage related failures on these ECUs, don't worry about it.
