Anybody have any favorites for a touch screen monitor? I already have a laptop to tune with, but I don't need the full keyboard nor do I need quite a big screen. The smallest I could find was a 7" (too small) or a 15" (too big)

Search eBay for "Fujitsu Stylistic".

It's a broad family of touchscreen tablets- no KB at all, just a touchscreen. Mine is a model 3400, which is a 10" display with a P3. Works just fine for both EMU and MS.

If you get one, also get the 12V adapter. These machines are so old that finding one with a battery that'll last more than 10 minutes is hard.

Joe I have seen people using those, but with specs like 192 MB of memory and a 6 gig HD, it kind of limits its usefulness to anything other than for tuning. Wonder if there is enough room inside to upgrade?

Well, yeah. For $100 to $150 I don't see the problem with a dedicated tuning PC. Hell, mine's bolted to the car.

The 3400 series come with 64MB stock, which is entirely adequate for running MegaTune or the Greddy software. Mine came with 128MB, which is the maximum for that model. It has never proven inadequate for any tuning-related task, and it's enough so that when I have the WiFi card in, I can use Internet Explorer to access documentation or download software.

We've all gotten pretty spoiled recently with multiple gigs of RAM for running games and having thirty browser windows open, and we forget how little hardware is actually necessary to do the basic stuff.

There are many different machines in the Stylistic family. Were I to do it over again, I'd have probably gotten one of the LT-500 series. It has a faster processor and such, but the important thing is that it's got a dedicated keypad section on the right side, with numerics and common cursor controls. That would make working with tables slightly easier and eliminate the need for the on-screen keyboard most of the time.

checkout mp3car for more stuff...lilliput 7" is really popular, but touchscreen tablets are great options. No familiar with these fujitsu's, but if it has an active digitizer instead of a touchscreen, it'll be more of a pain because you have to use the pen.

I have a fujitsu p1510d, convertible tablet, just got it pretty recently and is loving it to death! it's a touchscreen not an active digitizer. Of course active digitizers are far superior for using the pen and writing, but for normal use, it's nice to have touchscreen instead of having to use the pencil mouse/pad

Yes, the Fujis all require the use of the pen. Frankly, I don't find this all a problem, particularly when you consider that when working with Megatune, most of the fields and buttons are smaller than your finger. It actually becomes quite second-nature after a very small amount of time.

I'm familiar with Liliput's products, as we've used some of their caseless OEM products for prototyping in the past. They're ok- not great, but adequate. My only real problem there is that you still need an actual computer somewhere to drive it. With the tablet, it's all one piece. People ask me all the time where "the rest of it" is, and it's always amusing when I tell them "That's the whole thing. Really."


Spookyfish, that is exactly the one I'm talking about. I'm very curious to hear your first-hand impression of it- particularly the buttons on the side.

It is in the mail somewhere between Berlin and here. Should be in my hands next week. Hope the battery is OK and I need to find a car charger...

Yes, it has happened - My Fujitsu Stylistic LT C-500 is alive, running Windows 98 SE. This is THE tuning PC to be had: small, touch screen AND key pad and cheap if you can find one.
