Fast Idle Solenoid Ideas...
Well, I don't have idle control. I know I could try to make MS do something fancy to control the stock idle valve, but that doesn't really interest me.
Right now, it idles ~700 cold at 30*F and ~1300 when fully warmed up. It's perfect. I prefer it to idle high when warm so no problems here. But say, at night with the headlights on it drops 50 RPM's or more, and another 100 RPMs when the fans come on. Still ok so far, but turn on the A/C... and it dips to like 400 and then oscillates a bit and levels out around 600-700 RPM's. Granted I could retard timing, open the throttle, and get a stronger idle, but that's not what I want to do for other reasons. What I'm thinking about doing is two fold. For one, I'm thinking about adding a N/C vacuum solenoid that comes on when the fans come on. This would be stupid simple to hook up right now. Just tap a wire that feeds a fan and ground the other side of the solenoid. Hook it to the manifold and it will leak a bit of air when the fans come on. I've got a solenoid that came off a mazda millenia I could use. I can only assume that wiring it straight to +12V and ground continuous duty won't hurt it? Is this assumption correct? Then I'm thinking about doing the same for the A/C clutch. I believe there's only 1 wire going to the A/C compressor, so it's gotta be +12V when the compressor is switched on. Just tap it to trigger another solenoid. However, I don't have another N/C solenoid to use like the mazda one I'll use on the fans. But I do have a new GM boost solenoid I'm not using. Could I not use this? Will it care if it's held on 100% duty when the A/C is one? IE-If I cruise around for hours with the A/C on, will a GM boost solenoid care? |
SideDraft has done it with his PNP setup on his 90 1.6. He hooked up a vacuum solenoid to his a/c compressor and this raises his idle just enough to "catch" the a/c compressor load. Cant comment on it because I havent seen it. He might be willing to post a feedback.
My setup is parallel and the oem ecu is in control of the iac valve, so i get factory like idle, a/c kickup and all that. |
If you have an Adaptronic you just hit the tab "extra effort-AC on" and it does it for you...FTW. Seriously.:fawk:

dont make it a adaptronic vs ms thing though, cause we will get murdered in here:D |
