FM Voodoo box any good?
Anybody ever used the FM voodoo box? What did you think?
|
What are your goals?
The Voodoo box, like the Powercard / Powercard Pro add fuel under boost by lengthening the duration of the pulses driving the stock injectors. They are limited, therefore, by the stock injectors' capacity to flow enough fuel. You can upsize the injectors very slightly, but not much. Typically, fuel control by the means alone will be good up to about 160 HP or so. Beyond that, you need to consider alternate approaches. |
Anything over 6 psi on a small T25 and you'll be out of the Voodoo Boxes operating range.
It works fine, no timing control though so that's a bit scary. |
If you up to a bipes, with a Voodoo box, then run 315 supra injectors and a walbro 190 you could sqeek 8-10 psi out of it. Also you'd have to get a Begi. But at the price, you might as well buy a MS non-build and sit at home for a week with a sodering iron and build yourself a standalone!!!

I had the Powercard before they added the adjustable knobs to it. It.... worked? It wasn't great, but it worked. I had the little hose get kinked once. That was less than fun. And then I added an O2 clamp and Bipes. Far too many bandaids. The car ran like shit.
Doesn't a new Powercard exist that also controls timing? Seems I saw a big ad in some magazine with two powercards. Anyways, no direct experience with FM's card here. I'm sure it works. They wouldn't sell junk for something that important. I'm just not a fan of that sort of "engine management" past getting through emissions. |

http://forum.miata.net/vb/showthread.php?t=255415 The "standard" FFS system now consists of not one, not two, but three Powercards. One for the main injectors, another for the fifth injector, and another for the ignition. More $$ tied up in that shit than an MSPNP or an Adaptronic. thanks everyone. I am about half way through swapping a 99 1.8 into my 92. The 1.8 came with a VF supercharger that is producing 8psi. The dyno chart shows 189 hp. I want to change over to turbo but until I get some more $, I just want to drive it. Based off what I've read hear and from others I am going to go ahead and get a stand alone unit. That will also work out for when I do go turbo.

FWIW I ran the Voodoo at 8-9psi and it worked great.

After I ripped out my coldside S/C, I stayed away from any topic on any board that might have ever mentioned "powercard" ever again. I've been living a happy life. |

I would love to see some pictures of the SC installed and may be interested in it. You have to remember that VF installs a chip in the factory ECM to change the A/F mixture. Also where are you located? Have a great day, Jared |
I will post a pic tomorrow. The ecu was chipped by VF but that unit will not work in my car. I think that I am correct that a 99 ecu will not work in a 92. I am in Charlotte NC.

It would if the harness was swapped over. Not that it could not be done, but it would be a good amout of work. I was hopeing that you were close.
Have a great day, Jared |
