Haltech Platinum Sport 1000 success story

I've had problems with the way this car ran, mostly pretty mild since day one.

I recently left on a 3 week long, 7500 mile road trip in which i got married, and having a well-running car for the trip was obviously EXTREMELY important.

Came down to the wire, still having issues. C. Ludwig had previously done the Haltech setup on my Escort race car, and with 3 weeks left to go, i decided to say "Screw it" and we went forward with a Haltech install.

Before i describe to you all how moist my panties are right now over the Haltech, i will first state that i know that Megasquirt is the shit, it's cheaper, and it's God's gift to Miatas. However, i have no ambition to tune this car myself, i don't want to tune it myself, and i like having professional and in-person support on this car, as it's probably the nicest car i will ever own. (I don't like nice things.)

The car finally runs well, better than OEM drivability, great gas mileage, great power on a pretty conservative tune, and took the 7500 mile trip like a champ, and then endured me beating the hell out of it at MATG a mere week and a half later.

The front end/software is awesome, very easy to use. Datalogging is great, having a USB-native ECU is a welcome change.

All in all, i'm 110% happy that i ended up doing this.

There are PNP harnesses available. Is it more expensive than Megasquirt? Yep. Is it the most powerful ecu available? Nope. Is it pretty much perfect for my uses? Yep.

I'd consider it a very viable alternative in the Miata world. :)

Next: EBC and Flex Fuel shenanigans.

Yep, sure did. (Even with an *gasp* NGK Powerdex feeding it.)

I'm honestly giving serious thought to running my other Miata on the same ECU and ending up with three cars running the PS1000, it's that good.

Though part of me still wants to mess around with MS on that car because i should probably learn at some point.

learning is for poverty stricken MT members :giggle:

how much do those cost?

$1500 or less i believe. Usually you can substitute the PNP loom for their generic flying lead for no additional cost.
