Innovate E8 error code
Well, as the title says......
I installed a MTX-L WB a couple months ago and it has been working fine. Getting ready for turbo installation I installed my Reverant built MSPNP in my 10AE and have been learning to tune. Using VEAL to autotune my AFR's with great sucess or so I thought. My AFR is pretty damn close to the target table and was never pig rich or super lean. My WB gave me an E8 code indicating the sensor timing was off. Figuring the tune was rough on the sensor I bought a new one and all seemed well. For about 30 minutes. Got another E8 code. All wiring looks fine. I have searched the net and this seems to be a common problem. I am wondering if anyone has heard of this or knows a good fix? Should I use a better WB O2? Thanks in advance! |
Are you using the factory bung?
I used to get that code every time I did a high power/speed run. Someone on another forum said that E8 is common when the sensor gets too hot. I moved the sensor downstream and I haven't had the code show itself since. |
Thanks, I have the bung at the end of my header just in front of the cat so I don't think it is getting too hot. I have searched and it looks like this is a common problem. Maybe I can get an extender?

You need to extend the bung or build a heatsink for the sensor. Building a heatsink is simple and free if you have a piece of scrap aluminum or copper. Directions are shown in the Innovate manual.
I have had to build heatsinks on a couple of my cars. The extended bung is sexier but $$$. |
Thanks Ben! The sensor is already screwed into a pretty long bung. If you think it is worth a try I will go to the store and buy an extender? Please, tell me more about the heat sink. Can you post a picture?

Do you have the LC1 wired to turn on from 12v switched or 12v accessory (key position)? It is possible to shock the sensor if it warms up before the engine is started from cold, which leads to the dreaded e8 code. I destroyed a Bosch sensor this way. If this is not the cause then you can also try downgrading the LC1's firmware and/or use the heatsink.

Search is your friend!!
