Launch Control Refuses to Bang
1 Attachment(s)
I have a 93 turbo Miata with a SpeedyEFI Speeduino ECU. There are 2 options for launch control, hard cut, and rolling cut. I can only get it to shoot flames under hard cut but I want rolling cut in order to build more boost and sound better. No matter what amount of timing I pull or fuel I add when using rolling cut it will not shoot any flames or pop. I see videos of people on the same ECU doing gnarly launch control with rolling cut but I can't seem to figure it out. Does anyone else have this issue or know how to get my desired result? I can share my settings if need be
I've attached a video of my current 2step setup. not bad but could be better with rolling cut |
For those not wishing to download an .mp4 attachment, this is what the OP wants his car to do under normal circumstances:

If you want attention that badly, please consider joining the pageant circuit. I think you'll find it's a much more fulfilling hobby for you. Your neighbors, as well as anyone who lives near a road and has ears, will thank you.

My nearest neighbors are miles away and I do this to entertain people at sanctioned 2step competitions. I'm sorry you can't bear to see people have fun with their cars. I hope your real life has a little more joy than your online one

Who sanctions a 2-step competition?

Many of the meets I go to have 2-step / rev competitions, just look up "2step competition" on youtube and you'll find hundreds. It's not a foreign concept. Maybe if you go outside to a car meet once in a while you'd know about them. They're quite fun. It's usually judged on crowd applause and yes there is a winner

So these are not sanctioned 2-step events then? These are outlaw 2-step events? I was under the impression all sanctioned events were held under the I2SCA, with oversight by the FIA.
|
No, they are held by the event organizers with trophies, cash prizes, and with permission to do so. So yes they are sanctioned "an event, tournament, and/or matches conducted by an authorised Event Organiser that have received formal approval.". They aren't takeovers or anything like that. Often times they're fundraisers for charity. I just like to have fun and compete in them, no reason to be rude

Yo this is lame as fuck.

If your launch control is refusing to bang, you should take that as a message and stop trying to persuade it. No means no.

OP is low T

EDIT : I wanted to update this for future readers. I have revisited launch control on the speeduino and have found settings that are working well for me. This is not for "banging" or fireworks.
I used these settings at a SCCA Prosolo (drag racing style starts) a weekend ago and had consistent launches I am not an experienced tuner, so proceed with caution. I've read that retarding your timing like this can cause a lot of heat in the top end. Having said that, I haven't had issues yet. Cut Style : Fuel Only Soft Rev Limit : 3700 Soft limit absolute timing : 0 Hard Rev Limit : 3900 Fuel Adder % : 0 ---------------------------------------- Original Post Unrelated to all the banter, I do believe that Speeduino's launch control implementation is lacking. In my experience, rolling cut is not enough to hold RPM's steady. When using it, I see my rpms slow down at the target RPM but continue to climb. Not a huge issue, but the limiter style applies to launch control, and redline limiter. I definitely don't want my rpms climbing past my redline. Using hard cut, the rpms bounce too slowly, causing inconsistent launches. In this case, the RPM's don't continue rising. To the OP, if anyone's going to take your questions seriously (although that seems unlikely), you should definitely post your settings. There are also some similar questions on the speeduino facebook pages and forum which have more information. |
Please imagine for a second, your car's engine was completely transparent, with a real, non- transparent crankshaft.
Install several high speed cameras around the engine, hit the record button and two step the thing to your heart's content. Watch the videos in slo-mo, observe what is happening to the poor crank, and you will never ever torture your engine like that again. All we need is a little mechanical empathy. |
