Default Haltech, Anyone else Have One

Does anyone else have Haltech?

I'm going to get the program and start learning it next week.

Any tips would be helpful!

I do... I have an E6K on my '96 1.8.

I like it a lot. Has ALS if you're into that sort of thing... does everything I need and more.

I'm in DFW too. Sup!

Whats up WHATS UP....!!!!!!!!!!

You are the man of my dreams.....Just kidding ....We all know it is hustler.

For real though..... I've been looking over the instructions. And it doesn't look to hard.

The simple graph line looks very user friendly. But It takes forever to slowly figure something out without blowing the motor.

If you have some spare time, to show me the ropes of this computer..I would really appreciate it.

Hahaha... I've been called worse. :-)

I'd be glad to show you what I have, and how its setup, etc.

I work in Dallas too, so that might help with meeting locations.

It's still doing fine!

I'm still willing to show you what I've got. I've been working on other aspects of the car, but it still runs and drives awesome. :-)

Petrol; is your Haltech cheaper than an Adaptronic?

Ohh..I'm not sure how much the Adaptronic system costs.

I guess the things to measure would be if you have to buy extra modules, tuner, the software, etc... I'm just not familiar with the Adaptronic tho.

The Haltech is obviously older stuff...but I definitely like it. The simplicity with the addition of all the builtin options is what I like. Hell, I had a LINK ECU on my Subaru, and I had to pay a lot extra just for things like ALS and stuff. I realize that has very limited application on my street/track car...but its still cool to know its there if I wanted it (or to blow mad fireballs at the guy tailgating me)

Which model do you have. The one I'm looking into getting is the e6k. What features are you talking about that it has?

I too have the E6K. I was using the E6K back in the 90's to tune SAAB turbos. lol

Features I like and use (frequency of use depending on obvious conditions)

1. Launch control
2. 100% complete control of fuel and timing
3. Anti-Lag system (rare..I care too much about my...everything)
4. Antitheft ability
5. Turbo-Timer
6. Methanol injection control
7. Flat-shift (rare..I care too much about my driveline)
8. Can use an old or new laptop...DOS based graphics and menus, so runs fast.
9. Can pull it out and use it on another car with 2 rotors all the way up to 12cyl

And others I cant think of right now.

MSS and other guys: I'm not saying these are Haltech specific things, because most other standalone systems will obviously do this stuff too. These are just things I like about MY Haltech. I have limited knowledge of other systems...and I'll probably put an MSS in my Mercedes DTM-replica project when it gets to the drivetrain sorting time.

Wow I didn't think it would have all that in it for being an old system. That's great. Best thing is I'm picking one up for $200 with fuel rail and injectors and everything. You think maybe you could send me some base maps to get me started? I'm oblivious to this tuning stuff

$200?? Wowwww....

Are you 100% sure its working and stuff? (as in, seen it working or at least booted up on a laptop?)

I'd be glad to send you basemaps... Let me know what you have (if anything not OEM, coils, ignition, etc...) and your injectors, and I'll pick out a good safe one to start with. Also be really careful when you blow thru the maps and configs... you can insta-fry some things if you change things that you dont know about. (coils for example) lol

Let me know when you get it in and I'll send some.

I'm pretty sure it works. It was bought from someone that had it in there 1.6 miata and forget why they took it out. He sold the whole turbo system and everything so I'm thinking he either wrecked or sold the car. I'm pretty sure it comes with 70# injectors and it's stock ignition still. Running around 8# on a 57 trim t3

had to grab a shovel to find you guys!

I have a Haltech E6K that came off a 1.8 Protege with a 1.8 Miata head. I plan on putting it in my 95 M-edition.

the head cam with a 323 manifold, and 550cc rx7 injectors, I am looking to go VERY Conservative, and want to keep boost pretty low until I can get a forged bottom-end together for it. the head is cammed, polished, and has solid lifters already.

long story short do you have some Haltech How-to's for the miata? base maps, how to hook the turd into my laptop and etc...

Petrol help! aka Scott.... referred over to you by Johnmatt.

Howdy!

I have some base-like maps for it...at least to get you started. Also the basic settings for the ignition/etc.

You only need a standard serial cable to connect the laptop to the Haltech. There are USB to Serial converters out there, but I havent heard anything good about it...I just use an older lappy that has a serial (COM) port on it...good to go.

You can DL the software for free from haltech's website...

Let me know what your status is...and I'll help you out the best I can.

Ive got a local club member that bought the "big gulp" with the haltech e6x and Ive got to help him get a better base tune. Is there any nefty how-to's on the web I can look over? It seems to be similar to the MS software so I should be able to pickup on it.

His also having a hard time finding someone that and professional dynotune it. Only play I thought of is Top Speed, maybe see if Scott Seigle can tune a haltech lol. Anyone know of a good shop around East Tenn. that can handle a haltech?

If you're looking at Atlanta tuners, I'm pretty sure Ed Senf at Balanced Performance can tune a Haltech - he's worked with all kinds of systems.

Shoot Will Taylor an email: will@goturnstop.com

He tunes out of Six Sigma Dyno in Concord, NC. He helped develop our PnP PSport 1000 we have on our DSP 2.5 RS that we are releasing, and is helping me with doing a PnP PSPort1000 for my 92.

Also does a lot of work with the R35 Haltech Pro setups so he is very familiar with Haltech and a pretty damn good tuner. Shoot him an email and see what he says.

Awesome, thanks for the referals!

The owner of the car wants to autox and I believe the car can be a competitive SSM car with some suspension work and a good professional tune.
