Looking for a cheap ECU that'll suit my needs

Running a 1.8, and planning on a T28 and running about 7-8psi of boost.

I don't have much money to spend after I get all of this set up, can someone recommend me an ECU that will suit these needs?

Oh boy....

Preferably less than 300 if possible, willing to go up to 400 if it's nice.

only thing at that price that would be well recommended here is to build your own megasquirt. the end.

I'm looking for a nice place to get a happy ending massage for cheap. Preferably under $30.

Check your local streetcorner; though I should warn you that 30 bucks will get you an uneventful release and a couple of odd lumps.

MS is best for the money.

DIYAutoTune.com Megasquirt Kits / Assembled Engine Management Systems, Wideband o2 Sensor Systems and tuning products

Total you're looking at about $260, but you'll need to assemble it. Hope you know how to solder. Press "user CP" in the upper left hand corner of the forum, and add your location to your profile, maybe someone in your area will build it for a small fee. But above all, start searching, MegaSquirt is a very well covered topic on this forum.

you probably also want it "plug and play"

buffon01 10-23-2009 09:57 AM

Next question... Will it install and tune itself?? or do I have to touch the damn thing??

Dude get a MS if you CANT really afford to buy one built, then built your own. MS are relatively plug-n-play, emphasis on relatively, however small mods and tuning is required. Shit just doesnt fall in your car and work.

rider384 10-23-2009 07:47 PM

Thanks guys, though I don't think you really understood when I said "plug n' play".

Of course you have to tune it, and install it. I was simply wondering if there is any wire splicing or major modifications to the electrical system necessary.

So a few questions for MS for whomever wants to answer on this site:

What's the difference between version 2.2 and version 3.0?

Does it include instructions for the 1.6 and 1.8? (I have 1.6)

WHat else will I need besides the kit that's either $139 or $187?

Motec M800.

Most if not all of your questions are very well covered here:

MegaSquirt Forums

and here:

DIYAutoTune.com Megasquirt Kits / Assembled Engine Management Systems, Wideband o2 Sensor Systems and tuning products

You're going to have difficulty getting full answers to your questions because answers to your questions are easily available if you look around a bit.

DIYautotune has a couple of plug 'n play options, but they cost more than you're willing to spend.

That means you'll likely have do a lot of your own wiring.

As everyone else has said, search. You'll need the $187 kit, one of the wiring harnesses ($12-$40 I think), an IAT sensor ($20), a serial cable ($3.99), a laptop to tune it with ($$$), DIY autotune's USB-serial converter ($20, don't buy any other), fan mod ($5), and one other mod I forget the name, but it's another $5.

I THINK that's it. As everyone else has said SEARCH! There are some great sticky threads in the Megasquirt section of this forum. After buying all the above, you'll need to solder it together, drill and tap your intake for the AIT sensor and wire it to your car's AFM plug, run a vacuum line to the MS, solder together a PNP harness or solder directly into your car's ECU harness, and then the rest is software.

Again, ALL THESE QUESTIONS ARE ANSWERED IN THE MS STICKYS!
