Megasquirt vs. xede for a mazdaspeed maita

I've been looking for quite a while to get an ecu for my MSM but don't really know which one would be the best choice. I've narrowed it down to the BEGI megasquirt or the xede piggyback system. I don't want the hydra for the high price and the BEGI re-flash isn't an option for the simple fact that I want to retune it as my needs and desires change. I am currently leaning toward the Megasquirt for the simplicity and fact the most tuners can work with it due the popularity.

So in short I just wanted to see what other have to say about this and weather you guys can enlighten me to any other options for my MSM.

Thank you

It's telling that you didn't post a single positive for the Xede. Sounds like an easy decision.

MS3 from Reverant.

I currently have the XEDE and I'm looking into other options.

Pros:
-Great if you have a MSM with small power goals, Easy to go back to stock when inspection time comes around.
-Still have diagnostic codes from stock ecu
-Xede interfaces with the MSM very well and uses existing MSM parts to control boost/fuel/timing
-Switch maps on the fly - (stock vs tuned in my case, 2 map switch)

Cons:
-Xede causes boost solenoid check engine code due to the re-wire swap (not a big deal if you have a on/off switch for cel light)
-Limited in terms of flexibility (Uses a lot of stock ecu settings, only changes the 'boost' part really of the car)
-Less supported ecu, not many tuners use XEDE (good luck finding a tune, unless you're able to drive to Begi HQ like me :D )

If you thirst for more power or plan a ultimate build, I'd go MS and get to know your car inside and out.

MS3 can swap maps on the fly as well

Megasquirt for sure. Reverant will build you a MS2 with all sorts of features or a MS3. DIYAutoTune will have a MS3 out very soon. All options are plug & play. TunerStudio is awesome and will auto tune fuel for you.

This shouldn't even be a question. Reverent built ms2 or ms3 all day. Yous spending almost the same money, mineswell do the more capable option. You think support for the MS is small? cut that in a third and thats the amount of support out there for the xede.

Yeah thanks for the input guys. The decision was made for after I contacted BEGI to make sure their megasquirt comes with a baseline tune. It's even better than that when i order it they are going to ask me a list of questions about what i have done to my car and custom tune it according to that. So yeah it's a no brainer now.

Buy it through Rev. Begi doesn't know what their doing half the time.

schroom 06-28-2014 01:22 AM

Can rev do the custom tune and also for a mazdaspeed miata?

concealer404 06-28-2014 09:07 AM

Better than Begi can.

But like any tuneable standalone ecu... you'll have to, you know... tune it.

Braineack 06-28-2014 09:30 AM

do people actually ever recommend the Xede?

18psi 06-29-2014 01:46 AM

if it was <300 I'd probably try one just to see if I can keep the car "legal".

but for 550 or whatever they cost, with a ms3 being 700, its just not appealing at all.
