Is MS Worth It To Me?

I'm newer here but I've been lurking for sometime reading a lot of the FAQ's and all that good stuff. Now my question is not if a DIYPNP is better than a Link but whether or not the price difference justifies it for my needs. I have a 1.8, I plan on going with a pretty simple setup as in 460cc RX7 injectors, intercooler, sr20 t25. I would like to see around 200whp without going overkill. Would going with the MS over the Link be worth it. Probably around a $300 difference. I have never tuned before but I do know a little bit from what I've read over the entire winter.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

The link would probably be more money than the MS, so yes, the MS is worth it for you.

Shit goes up as soon as it's an antique. And I'm pretty sure I saw a Link on a local antique store's shelf recently.

I found a link on here with an IAT and Serial link for $300, and I was comparing to a DIY built by brain for around $600. But I'm assuming you just mean in the way that it's old technology so it will end up costing more in the long run lol.

Kid, seriously. It's like saying you only need a computer for word processing, so you buy a typewriter.

There are deals that pop up on first generation MSPNPs for $300, same with DIY MS1s. Wait for those, don't waste your money on a Link.

Ok point proven, thanks.

I don't know, is an MS worth it to you? All we know is you have a 1.8. No location, no car info, no idea if the idea of tuning is interesting to you. Have you read the megamanual? Have you already looked up every reference available about tuning an MS? Only you can answer what you need.

I'm not saying this to be harsh, I think it's a personal decision. I am an oddball around here because I chose to install an FM Link...in 2013.

Why? Because it was dirt cheap, it was proven hardware specifically made for my year of miata, 3 current FM staff and some forum members here have personal experience with it, and for a street car with mild power goals it's great.

Is it old tech? Yes. Do newer ECUs have more resolution and more control? Yes. Would I change out my link for an MS? Nope. It's pretty easy to tune, everything on the car works like stock.

I would certainly encourage anyone to get a standalone of some type over a piggyback. After that, it's what you OR your tuner is comfortable with.

Just my opinion.

This is more of what I was looking for because I don't have any personal experiences with either of the ECU's or tuning. Yes the idea of tuning does interest me a lot and when I said I've been reading a lot I also meant the megamanual and all the information that FM has on their website about the link. I should have specified that. I posted this because I couldn't find all too much info on comparing the two.

I'd offer 200 on that link, if they didnt take it then I'd save up and get an MS. You can use the link for a while and if you decide you want more power then upgrade to an MS and pass the link on to someone who may want to use it.
