MTX-L with cross referenced non-Bosch sensor?
 

Has anybody successfully used a cross-referenced wideband O2 sensor with the MTX-L? Advance Auto shows part number 17014 as being superseded and no longer available. They do have cross-referenced sensors--all are significantly more money--but maybe one would be worth it. For example, the Denso was three times as much, but if it lasts...

don't have any experience with the MTX-L wideband, but i had another wideband solution from innovate, annd i hated it. I switched to an AEM unit and i have no regrets. Sorry i can't help you.

Not really what I was thinking of.

The sensor seems to be the weak link, but I didn't really have any recurring problems with it until I got the Rotrex and was running richer AFRs. The sensors from Advance were considerably cheaper than the ones from Innovate. Upgrading to the 4.9 requires a new cable and reprogramming the gauge, which means I have to take some things apart, and the initial outlay is more than the cost of two 4.2 sensors. I don't know that the 4.9 sensor is any more robust. Changing to a different vendor, like AEM, is a larger outlay and a bigger effort.

I may try the Denso in the future. I'm surprised no one here has experimented with this already.

The MTX-L uses the LSU 4.9. Where as the LC-1 used the LSU 4.2.

LSU 4.9 controllers like the MTX-L are backwards compatible with the LSU 4.2.* Where as the LC-1 is not compatible with the LSU 4.9.


Part 17014 should still be available because it's a part for some car models, but it's not even compatible with your MTX-L unless you chop off the connector and re-pin it:

When I purchased my MTX-L a few years ago, it came with, and was set up for, the 4.2 sensor. As I said, I can upgrade to the 4.9 sensor if I get the new cable and reprogram the controller.

The 17014 is no longer available at Advance. As I said, it has been superseded by a new, and more expensive, part. It worked fine with my MTX-L. I have one in there now.

Of course it's the tune...

Try someplace other than advance?

looks like you cant order anymore form advance, but other places have it. you just lose out on the 30% discount. this p/n wont be superseded, it's a replacement part for specific model cars.


autozone has it for $49.99 and has coupon codes too -- there's a 20% $100 order right now.

This part is superseded by Advance. I saw the computer display. Superseding provides a replacement part number, so those specific model cars will still have a part their owners can buy from their local Advance Auto. They had the cheapest price in the past, and gave me my military discount. Now I have to look elsewhere, and so I thought about using a sensor from another vendor, like Denso.

Why are we arguing about this? How's about just answering the original question?

what's the superseded part numbers? Denso 234-5117 ($115)? or 234-5115 ($220)? or NTK 24321 ($250)?

I'd just buy 17014 at autozone instead at $49.99 (who have a military discount) vs. the $115 for the Denso at advance.


looking at Bosch's site, seems like 17351 is the replacement part. still $$$$.

You have always been helpful beyond words. I apologize if I came across as ungrateful. I also apologize for making the lead-in story more interesting than the question.

I don't really need search help. I have a couple of under worked, overpaid govies in my office who spend their days looking for the end of the internet. They're giddy and fascinated when I ask them to find something for me. "Hey Googler, what's the radar cross section of a '56 Ford F100?" It gets quiet and I can actually get some shit done for a couple of hours.

All I wanted to know was if anyone had paired up a non-Bosch 4.2 sensor to the MTX-L. The Googler doesn't like answering Miata questions.
