new fuel pump needed...... which one?

My oem pump is on its way out. Whats a good replacement? Running my 200whp turbo. Thought about a 190 walbro but dont want to overpower the stock fpr. A bit unsure whether the oem ones on ebay are any good.... Any suggestions?

Wrong section. The Walbro 190HP won't overpower your FPR. I've run one for years, car runs fine with it.

Are you running an MS? Because you don't need anything other than a good running stock pump if you are just running bigger injectors and a Megasquirt.

I only have the 190HP because I ran the AFPR band-aid setup for a while.

DW200 here because tired stock pump could only do 240whp. DW200 does not overpower stock FPR and is quieter than Walbro I had at one point and sold.

The Walbro is fairly loud, but I put some dynamat type stuff on the parcel shelf and that made it acceptable. Now with the 3" exhaust I can't hear the fuel pump at all!

I saw that Lightning Motorsports has them for $99 with install kit included. From my search that's 30 bucks cheaper than most other places.

190HP or OEM.

GSS250 (190) and GSS317/342 (255) are both $99 on the LMS site. Only thing is I believe these are the low pressure versions.

lightning carries the HP models of each, not that anyone should really be buying a 255HP without having good justification behind it.

they used to be $79 with the install kit...

When people say "oem". Do they mean genuine Mazda or a generic one they got from eBay/AutoZone etc?

rleete 04-25-2014 05:54 AM

OEM is original. Mazda parts.

Braineack 04-25-2014 08:07 AM

I would include generic oem replacement to my list.

if you're not in a situation where you don't need a bigger want, or will never need a bigger pump in the future, then there's no reason to get a bigger pump.

I'm surprised the Denso 1020 fuel pumps aren't recommended more often. They are an OEM quality pump that can flow more fuel than any Miata should need, yet very quiet.

I don't have Miata specific experience with them, but I swapped one into my old RX-7 with an LS1 and I was quite pleased. It's what I plan on using if/when I need a replacement. I guess the only fear is if it would overpower the stock regulator.
