OBD II compliant management

So eventually I'd like to Turbo my 97 na but I'm required to maintain a OBD II system works emissions reasons, now I've already talked to the awesome people to flyin miata and said I can get around it with their voodoo II box but doesn't offer the wiggle room I'd like to have, so I'm wondering if there's a setup that'll piggy back on and allow the system to be seen by our emissions crap or even a standalone that can simulate it

No standalone will return OBD2 codes in the sense of what is needed to pass emissions. It is highly illegal and companies that have tried are quickly put out of business by the government. Most people just swap back to the stock ecu when they have testing and wire the wastegate open.

It's not the codes just need the monitors for the sensors to show, I have my 2g cert for NV and emissions lab said as long as those monitors show they don't care just don't give them a reason to look into it

You can also run a megasquirt as a full-feature piggyback to your stock ECU. Essentially just running all the sensor inputs into the stock ECU while MS3 shares the inputs and runs the show (all the outputs). For this you typically need to run your WBO2 sensor to simulate an NB signal for the stock ECU and feed the WB signal into the MS3. Also make sure to remove all bias-resistors from MS3 and make sure you use the proper stock-ECU bias values for the MS3 setup. I believe stocj ECU will eventually throw a CEL if you don't use fairly fast EGO-corr on the MS3.

Emulating emissions readiness codes is a federal crime. If you find a standalone manufacturer doing it, snap one up quickly, but be prepared to support it yourself when the purveyors go to jail.

Pretty much this. Its the whole idea behind cleanplugging smogs in CA and that is punished harshly. You couldn't pay me enough money to cleanplug a car, its a free ticket to jail if you get caught.

Just do what everyone else does and swap back to stock every 2 years. It's not worth the hassle to try to do this. It is possible, but how valuable is your time and how much money do you want to pay?

Swap ECU for inspection, or is the risk of surprise inspection higher than null?

Not awake to read the full posts...

What's the fed rules about highly modified OEM mapping (triggering no emission codes of course)?

DBXJ 10-30-2016 10:32 AM

In NV we have yearly tests we don't have suprise inspection nor do we have carb laws just idiotic swap laws and I'm not talking about removing any of the emissions devices I'll still have a cat, erg, ect , and I do have my 2g certification so not only am I'm fairly informed of the emissions laws in my state and the federal laws that are backed behind them I also know how they work and how they're tested and or repaired and I also know the stories of a few companies that built simulator o2 sensors and why they're not around becuase it was a tampered emissions device, but the loop hole that law is a signal altering kind of like the voodoo box or edge chipsets bullydog, viper, cobra, demon tuners were it alters the signal coming out of the sensor to the ECM or re-flashes the ECM it's not carb legal but they're still around because you're not circumventing or removing any emissions devices it's all still being monitored just a altered signal, least that's until the law changes which they've been trying to do "the whole you don't own the code used to program the car meaning that if you tamper with it you're tampering with copyrighted material" now if they put it on a sniffer that would be a different story and there for making it illegal being how its operating outside permissible emissions guidelines but they do not and I repeat do not put a OBDII car on a sniffer in my state if the OBDII system isn't operational they won't test the car at all so again until they change the law requiring a sniffer test as well then its not illegal since all they're looking for is if the device is being monitored.
Now what my original question was is there any systems that would let me piggyback into the oem harness before the ecm it will remain in place and just see a normal signal and that will also allow me tuning room,
this is why I like my FC full standalone it passes the sniffer and none is the wiser

and searching what stefanst said I found my answer here

Yes you can run a standalone in parallel and theoretically pass the tests. No it is not easy to do, and yes you have to figure it all out on your own.

What about larger injectors that may be installed? If RX-8 or Turbo RX-7 were being used I would assume a stock ECU would not be able to control them and stock injectors would have to go back in too, right?

shuiend 11-30-2016 10:33 AM

Yes stock injectors have to go back in. In general the stock ecu can handle larger injectors up till about 320cc or so. After that issues start happening.
