Possibly in the market for a new ECU... looking for serious recommendations?

ok kids,
It looks like i am starting to see a few hardware issues with my old trusty Adaptronic E420C. This may put me in the market for a new ecu if i cannot get them resolved. What serious recommendations do you have for my setup requirements:

~Inputs:
2000 chassis/wiring harness (clutch switch/ speed sensor/ AC/ voltage/ knock/ TPS/ etc...)
ATI super damper w/ 36-1 trigger wheel (stock 2000 crank sensor)
VVT head with stock VVT cams and triggers (stock 2000 cam sensor)
Innovate LC-1 WBO2 sensor
Innovate SSI-4 (currently operating 0-5v of next 2 sensors)
- Fuel pressure sensor 0.5-4.5v
- Oil pressure sensor 0.5-4.5v
IAT sensor (GM)
MAP sensor (currently have GM 3bar available)
WT sensor
Oil temp Sensor (AEM 30-2012)
EFR turbine speed sensor (have available and would like to use)

~Outputs:
Stock 2000 miata stuff (fuel pump, etc...)
01+ VVT solenoid
EFR MBC solenoid
VICS intake manifold solenoid
IAC valve (stock 2000)
AC output control (Stock 2000)
2000 alternator control
Sequential fuel injection
D581 coils (wired in wasted spark output but can reconfigure to sequential if outputs are available)

I do not need to pass emissions, as this car is now registered as a "classic" So any emissions related functions are no longer needed

I realize that just about everyone is going to scream MS3x at me, but i don't believe that it works with these cam/crank triggers yet. Can someone confirm this as i am certainly open to all options.

Cheers,
Jared

When did the MS3 not work with 36-1 wheel and stock cam sensors? Did I miss something? I'm almost certain it works with 36-2, so I guess you could get a different wheel.

Is there anything other than MS3x? Why bother?

swimming108 06-05-2015 03:22 PM

the 36-1 currently works with batch fire injection and wasted spark ignition. As far as i know (updates from the 36-1 thread) code has not yet been written for the MS3x to support sequential injection, sequential ignition, or VVT function with this crank trigger wheel.

If this is indeed resolved now, i agree that there is only one decision.

Why not simply go to the Adaptronic Select?

They are a full standalone without any of that patch loom nonsense, and do alternator control really well internally (it has alternator load feedback, makes idle nice and smooth).

At least then you could also retain all your Innovate stuff fed into the ECU.

Cheers

I really like my Adaptronic Select plug and play.

You could always dump the 36-1 wheel and use the OEM 4 tooth trigger.

Reverent has posted his experiences of using both and could find no tangible benefit to the higher tooth wheel.

The e420c is now officially dead. i was driving to an autox this morning when the car lost all engine response. i couldnt connect with the laptop, and the car would not restart. i pulled the ecu on the side of the road and looked into the case and found a few burned out circuits.

Luckily i have one of the best autox clubs ever. someone saw me on the way to the race and picked me up. Another member picked up my tire trailer for me from the side of the road. The club president even gave me his truck and trailer so i could get the car home... 4 hrs from his house.

That would be great if i didnt have to buy or make such a wheel for the ATI superdamper. A stock wheel wont fit on it.

I do enjoy the
innovate products. this looks to be one of my cleanest options to swap to. I just want to try to go the cheapest route possible. I will be contacting Innovate in the morning as well as a few other possible sources to see if i can get any deals.

Have you tried contacting Adaptronic about the ECU failure if you are the original purchaser? Maybe they would be willing to work with you and do a reduced cost upgrade to a plug and play unit or e440? Their customer service is usually top notch.

I've been saying this for 5 years now.

I have no clue why some of you have such a hard-on for paying money for a trigger wheel that doesn't allow for vvt for no measurable benefit.

But!!!!!!! It's an upgrade!!!!!!!!!!!

No you're right, it's silly/worthless for most people. I'm running 23PSI on pump gas with the stock wheels, they work great.

To the OP, just get the 4 tooth wheel for the ATI and a MS3.

Link G4+ Fury can handle everything and has built in high-end wideband controller. Not sure about alternator control though.
I had great results with Link G4+ and stock Miata triggers.
Last week tuned 400WHP Miata VVT on G4+. Stock engine except rods, HG and head studs.
