question about retarding base timing

Hi guys, Im in the process of building my first miata motor. I have a 97 block and 99 head. I have a s14 t28 turbo that I want to run 12psi through the tial external wastegate. Getting to the point... I bought a msd timing block and realized it takes a total of 6 degrees timing :/ so running .75 degrees retarded per pound of boost, leaves me at needing 9 degrees retard if I want to run the 12psi..... my question is, will my block be ok cruising around town running 3 degrees retarded off my base timing? Im not concerned about a loss in throttle response or being a little more sluggish until boost since this car will be for drift and will be living in the redline, but I dont want to damage my cylinder walls or get too much heat as a result of running retarded while cruising around. I'm planning on running 11.1:1 full boost and around 14.7:1 cruising.

Do you guys think that my engine will be ok 3 degrees retarded off base timing cruising around?

THANKS!!

You should be fine. I'm assuming you plan on running 7* as base timing is 10*. Search for Greddy timing and you can find a little more info about this as the 1.6 greddy kits run at 6*.

You'll be fine.

MS is highly recommended. Takes care of issues like this.

In all seriousness hornet is correct, Megasquirt is where its at. The learning curve is steep (I just spend all Sunday night fighting mine) but MT has lots of smart people who can help and give guidance. The system really won't be optimal or efficient if you can't control fuel and spark. Add a wideband and larger injectors and you are pretty much set. Good deals come up all the time in the classifieds for MSPNPs if you keep on it.

Edit: Just saw this was your first post, welcome to MT! You may also want to go make an intro thread. Tell us about your car, goals, location, etc. Helps people to get to know you.
