Speeduino not getting CAM sensor signals cranks but start 92 NA Miata
4 Attachment(s)
Hi good morning everyone,
I have recently installed a turbo kit on my NA6 and it starts just fine on the stock AFM and ECU. However, when connected to the Speeduino NA6 PNP ecu, it cranks but doesn't start. I looked through my TS and i'm only reading MAP, IAT and CLT on crank. On crank, the white box at the bottom of the TS doesn't sense that i'm cranking. The composite logger isn't showing anything too after logging it 3-5 sheets. I'm seeing 0 RPM, 0 PW, 0 DC. I thought something went wrong with the system so i reupdate to the 201909 firmware and basetune. Still wouldn't start. I reswapped it to the stock afm and ecu and it starts right up. I had a couple guys look at my base tune and they said that the crank and trigger setting that i'm running on should allow me to start the car but they were unsure why the ECU wasn't getting any CAM signal. I pulled the plug caps on and cranked it but saw no sparks. Thank you once again! Disclaimer: I have no experience in tuning and i've been reading alot on forums and videos prior to posting this which is the reason why i'm starting this thread because i've been trying to get it up and running for the past 4 days so that i can send it to a tuner. I've also saw a couple guys from 2 years ago who had the same issue and have shot them a PM but have yet to get any response. My apologies if this question has came up a million times for the Speeduino but i've been running a search on the thread but to no avail or response. Here's my set up: 1992 NA6 Miata CXracing turbo kit Intercooler AFM delete GM IAT LC-2 Wideband Harbourfreight Boost Gauge NA6 PNP Speeduino ECU made by Josh ST_SIG fuse removed before cranking the car up for the first time IAT connected to 1st and 6th pin on the stock AFM harness No VTPS for now as i'm waiting for it to arrive but stock TPS has been unplugged but ran no 1k resistor Stock Injectors for now Stock Fuel Pump for now CAS timing checked with timing light and sits dead on 10 degrees without having me to touch or unscrew the sensor. Attached is also my log and base tune that i'm running on right now. I would really appreciate if someone could guide me to the right direction as i'm still a newbie and learning. |
I can take a look on your map after work, that's in 10 hours.
You checked timing with the stock ecu, right? |

You checked timing with the stock ecu, right? I would appreciate that good sir! However, i’m guessing that i have a faulty unit. Yes i checked timing and it’s on 10’degrees. Hooked up the stock ecu, got 12v for both 1A and 1B port. Got 5volts on the CAS harness. Hooked up the speeduino ecu. Got 12v for both 1a and 1b but failed to receive 5v on the CAS harness. Hooked up the Speeduino ECU back on, connected the plugs and back probed it but receiving -0.02v on the 2G and 2E pin instead of 5v. Am also getting the same reading of -0.02v on all the 5v ref ports as indicated on in the white pic int he white circled. https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...ebef8607c.jpeg Attached is also the latest log on the start attemlt i did 10 mins ago. Thank you once again! |
Sadly this isn't the first speeduino pnp thats faulty.
Mine (May 2018) is okay, but it seems, that some of the 2019 batches had some problems. Josh is also on the forum here, maybe he can clarify this... |
Yeap! This unit was bought around that time. Tbh, it was a tad bit frustrating after spending lots of efforts and hours by myself for the turbo installation only to be set back by a faulty PNP unit.. I have already shot Josh an email, he replied and i did too but have heard nothing else from him.

hey, sorry, i didn't have time yesterday and now im at work again, so i take a look this evening after doing some laps on my sxf...
|
Did you manage to get it sorted?
|
Are you sure that TPS jumper you put on hasn't shorted out the 5v rail?
|
My friend has one that is doing the same thing. 5v on 1n, everything else reads, CAS is even putting a signal on 2E and 2G that can be read by an o-scope connected to the pins, but the speeduino sees nothing. Josh hasn't responded to his emails.
He ended up ordering a speediefi one and that one works perfect and fired right up (well, once we figured out that all the ecu swaping trying to sort out the first speeduino caused the wire going to 1A to break...) |
