Tacho connection on NA with NB engine

Hey everybody,
I just installed new engine to my NA from NB 1.8 103kw. Everything now runs fine, just don't know where i can get tacho signal to my old speedometer console. Maybe somebody can suggest what to do?

Braineack 06-19-2012 09:26 AM

are you still using the stock coils?

Gstep1 06-19-2012 09:36 AM

no, everything on engine are new from NB.

Braineack 06-19-2012 09:44 AM

the NB coils don't have the ability to send out a tach singal like the early NA coils. I'm assuming you hacked into the wiring to run them? otherwise I would have just used my NA coils and there wouldn't have been a problem.

I would like to leave coils from 1,8. Because now when everything runs fine, just don't want to change something until i will get MS. But where was signal on NB? It was from ECU? I know that NB console has microcompuer wich is making signals to right. But some signals must go in from ecu or somewhere whiches controls tacho.

yeah the NB ECU outputs the signal, are you using the NB ECU?

If so, what model year and I can tell you which pin to use and where to route it to.

All swap was taken from 1999year. 1,8 103kw .

So pin 2K grn/org is the tachout from the ECU. You'll have to wire it to yellow/blue wire coming into your instrument cluster.

or back to the yellow/blue wire on the ignitor wiring or the yellow/blue wire coming off IG- on the diagnostic connector.

Undoing the cam sensor on an NB will disable the tacho as well.

Everything works fine, thanks for information :)
