Tuners in birmingham, al

Are there any decent megasquirt tuners around or near birmingham,al? I know of a few tuners in Atlanta but I don't feel comfortable driving that far with a base tune.

Did you get it to idle well?

Once you do that, get the deluxe version of TunerStudio and autotune the VE table by just driving around. You can set it where it doesn't mess with the idle cells when it autotunes.

And we have a couple of members up there. Most of us don't use tuners.

I haven't gotten to that step yet. I just pulled out the blown vvt motor I had in the 96 I just bought that threw a rod after turn 1 on little talladega. Just want to make sure it's done right is all since I will be racing it. The setup was boosted and since I will be building a motor to make more power I want to make sure I. Do it right and don't blow it up. I'm all for learning and tuning but I just don't want to risk having to pay another 500 in track damages if I blow another motor. I plan on running the same setup which is a 2860 on 14psi running about 250whp.

Are you planning on forged rods?

gdoehl 10-04-2015 09:55 AM

Yes absolutely. Along with forged Pistons, a balanced rotating assembly and all the relevant machine work. Not planning on doing much head work other than cleaning, relapping the valves etc..

Choose the 8.4CR Supertechs from 949 Racing. They equip them with different rings than the standard. The lower CR will let you run more boost pressure without detonation.

The base tunes are usually very conservative on spark which is also good for detonation resistance. Where did you get your base tune?

I'm tracking my car with a GTX2867R and I sometimes run 15psi on track but usually around 12psi for longevity of drivetrain components. I'll help you through this if you want.

Get the Supertech light double springs at a minimum to ensure longevity. The boost and high rpms tend to float intake valves a bit. Having them is a little more insurance against dropping a valve on a missed shift, too.

I bought this car from Harrison beach in Atlanta. He runs a tuning shop called b spec motorsports and they tuned the car. I have absolutely no idea about any of the details of the basemap.

I appreciate all the help and would definitely be interested in any help you could give me as far as tuning goes once I get started. I'm currently taking apart the engine I just bought to assess its condition and get started with the rebuild.

And yeah good call on the valve springs I planned on putting those in as well. Does it matter if I use them with the stock retainers. Are they probe to cracking?

sixshooter 10-06-2015 07:00 AM

The retainers are not prone to cracking. The Supertech titanium retainers are much lighter and therefore quicker, if they are in your budget.

Take a screenshot of the spark map and post it up for some feedback, if you want it.
