Using a MacBook with megasquirt
I have a newer MacBook Pro that I was going to get an adapter for a serial port. Anyone using a newer MacBook to use with megasquirt without any issues?

In my experience, tuner studio is riddled with bugs on mac os. I use boot camp and boot into windows 10 with the latest version of tuner studio. I have the most stable experience that way. It is possible with mac os but I wasn't too happy with it.

So basically it’s being able to run windows 10 on your Mac? Also are you using a serial adapter? because there is no plug on my MacBook for a serial port
I personally use the perfect tuning wireless adapter with great success but there has only been a handful of times that I needed to use the usb adapter. |
I've tried using the mac version of the ounersudip / Megalog viewer on a 2015 mbp. The software is buggy and crash prone.
With Parallel running Windows 10, TunerStudio / Megalog view just works. I use the DYI sold serial -> USB adapter. In Parallels, install the windows usb adapter drivers and when you connect the adapter, have Parallels recognize the adapter as connected to windows. |
Parallels or vmware fusion are both great alternatives. Unfortunately for me, my newest mac is my 2013 macbook air so I don't have the processing power to effectively run 2 instances of an os to do that.

You have a few options. You can buy the tunerstudio recommended serial to usb adapter and use that on your laptop, you can buy the tunerstudio recommended wifi adapter and do things wirelessly or you can buy the perfect tuning wireless adapter and use your laptop wirelessly. If you have a MSPNP PRO, it will not work with the bluetooth wireless adapters. They require too much initial power on startup and overload the power onboard the megasquirt. So stick to serial to usb adapter or serial to wifi adapters.

I am getting the MSPNP2. The wireless adapter seems worth it. Thanks a lot

Not sure how new your MBP is but if you have the one that only has thunderbolt3 ports that adds another complication not sure how well the adapter for USB to thunderbolt3 works with the serial adapter
