What would be typical ignition advance numbers for this setup?

Hi guys,

Just wondering what kind of ignition advance numbers you are running around 15psi on 93 MON fuel, or what you think would be typical?

This is the setup in question:
  • CP pistons with 9:1 static CR
  • MSM head and MSM cams
  • 99 (VICS) intake manifold
  • EVO3 TD05-16G turbo
  • 2.5" exhaust

I had issues with my catch can filling up and pushing oil into the intake, trying to gauge how much effect this had on things.

Cheers

why don't you post a screen shot of your ignition map and we'll tell you if its good or not.

That's way conservative. Pretty sure you can run at least another 5* at peak load (205kpa right?) without even starting to push it.

I'm sure the oil in the intake is a big problem as well - among other things it can cause severe detonation when the car wouldn't even hiccup otherwise.

Thanks man, let's hope the oil is the only problem! With one degree more timing the engine would ping on a 250rpm/sec ramp up but not 500rpm/sec.

Any other things I should look out for? The engine has perfect leakdown and compression results.

Have you checked your static timing to make sure 10 degrees on your screen is actually 10 degrees and not perhaps 15.

Hi Doug,

Awesome first post! Yeah, I have a 36-1 trigger wheel and I have verified the timing with a light. It's spot on and doesn't drift at all.

Cheers

if anything your timing map is retarded.

nitrodann 12-28-2013 11:27 AM

Its definitely very safe. As Vlad said 5 degrees retarded compared to what most would run.

Even at 100kpa you are conservative. Fix your breathing issue.

Hmm i'm confused... what do you mean by that? Please explain how you're switching from a 250rpm to a 500 rpm map. I think i got an answer to ur issue.

timk 01-04-2014 02:47 AM

I just meant the ramp up speed setting on the dyno (Dynapack 4000).

Cheers

Ah my bad, i thought you were talking about the 500vs250rpm map settings on the adaptronic settings.

timk 01-04-2014 02:57 AM

Ahh yes that would be a small issue!! :)

Thanks for your post anyway.

My setup is almost similar to yours. I am also having issue with oil catch tank filling up, I have good compression and leakdown numbers too. As a bandaid solution is to buy those 1 way oil valve from flyin miat and route the oil back to the oil pan.

My ignition numbers are 1-2degree more advance than yours. And any further advance, there is no increase in power but detonation.
