I searched high and low but all of the threads I found regarding variable TPS mods for a 1.6 are from several years ago. The BMW TPS that seemed to be popular now seems to be impossible to find for a reasonable price.

So do I just suck at searching and there IS some versatile solution for modern Miata owners who crave variable throttle positioning or is what I found correct and the latest "here's how you wire up a TPS" thread was written when Moses wore short pants?

I was really hoping for more of a solder solution (like the BMW version) over a mechanically rigged up version.

Wouldn't that mean that the rotating shaft only "catches" in one direction?

Have you considered the possibility that you may be insane?

I'm not familiar with this specific unit- I've always used either the Honda B-series TPS or the BMW 5/7 TPS on my 1.6 engines. (Note to self: stop buying '90-'93 Miatas, they suck in so many ways...)

However, some (most?) analog TPSes have built in spring returns, meaning that the throttle shaft only needs to force it open, and the TPS will automatically run itself back to the closed position. It's possible that the TPS201 may be of this design.

(Waits for someone who has used one to chime in.)

The TPS201 has a return spring. Has worked faithfully for years on my car.

There's a guy on MX5Nutz who has designed an adaptor for the BMW TPS for printing on a 3D printer if you have access to one.

He's made the .stl file freely available if you want to use it.

I'm stating the obvious here, but the shaft on the throttle body only needs to catch and rotate the switch as the throttle plate opens and then the switch will return itself?

That just seems too easy. Haha.
