Wideband O2 for air vents
Hi this is the my first thread but I've replied to a few and have been on this site a lot in the past year. I'm getting a WBO2 for my 96 and I really want the gauge to go into one of the two center vents. I already have a 2" Autometer boost gauge in one so I know 2" is a perfect fit, but the only WBO2's I can find are 52mm aka 2-1/16". Anyone have any ideas? Thanks- Wes

I had my AEM wideband in my vent for about a year.. Fit perfectly fine
|
my afr gauge that came with my lc1 fits perfect. db guage
|
My other gauge fit very easily. I'm guessing that the extra 1/16" doesn't make a difference- maybe just fits more snug?
|
I actually had to wrap electrical tape around my AEM gauge to get it snug.

It's good to know I'm not the only one that's done this. Now I don't feel so ghetto.

I did the same thing! The problem is the heat that detaches it. Any suggestions?

my gauges are on a DIN plate, but I also have problems with heat and the electric tape. Thanks nicacus!

You guys that have one or two vents blocked: does air come out of the unblocked vents faster so you still get full use of a/c or heat?
|
I've had both my old AEM and my current XD-16 mounted in the left-center eyeball vent. Perfect fit on both. With the XD-16, I used the threaded studs and a little bit of flat plate behind to firmly anchor it to the trim ring. The AEM was a perfect friction fit with no tape or other retaining devices.

Although in my case, as I didn't need to use electrical tape in either case, I didn't even bother blocking the duct. The heat does not seem to affect the gauge at all. |
Sorry Necro, but this is relavant so rather than a new post ill post here and search didnt turn up anything useful.
How did you all route the cable ? ive got the vent out and ready to mount the gauge in but not sure how to route the cable ( my control box is in the pass footwell ). Is there a way through the heating path or do u need to drill a hole in there to pass the cable through into behind the dash?. I was thinking about just routing it through the tombstone but i think the cable will then block where the gauge sits. any ideas would be great thanks. Pics would be excelent. |
+1 I rock the AEM gauge in one vent, and pro sport boost gauge in the other.
Edit: For the wbo2 you don't need to do any modification to the vent for the wires to clear. For the boost gauge i drilled a hole in the vent to run the vac line. I figured i could always patch that hole if i revert to using all 4 vents again. So far i have no complaints. http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4025/...b1b85acd61.jpg |
I just drilled a hole at an angle that was big enough for the wires and i made sure it was far enough back first.

I had fun installing my gauge in the air vent. :td:

so u guys just drilled a hole behind where the eyeball vent sits? a pic of where would be good, i dont really wanna start drilling shit with no idea

why would you install gauges in your air vents if you still had you AC installed???
I'm also getting a new dash soon and will most likely redo my gauge setup. |
