Guage cluster stopped working please help
 
Hi, I have a 1990 1.6 turbo miata with a megasquirt ecu. I acquired the car from my Uncle and have had issues since but it's to fun of a car to let go. Randomly after replacing the timing belt, assessor belt, cam position sensor, and valve cover I lost my gauge cluster. Also I did patch a small hole in the floor pan and made custom mounts for a racing seat, however this required welding and I forgot to disconnect the battery. I have replaced all of the fuses in the interior fuse box and believe that none of the relays in the engine bay to be the fault. Curious if anybody had any places to go from here because I am lost. Any help is appreciated, thanks

On the gauge cluster it still will light up when the lights are on, the retractor light will still show up, and both turn signals and high beam light work. Just no rpm, Temps, oil pressure, gas gauge, or charge indicator light which normally comes on when the car is not running. when I plug my laptop into the ecu I can see rpm and temp but still no gauge cluster

After rereading your post, I should have said: recheck the meter fuse. They’re all ground signals, relying otherwise on that fuse. Unless you fried all the sensors, the meter fuse is at fault.

Meter fuse is good, im guess that it is a ground issue somewhere but you said that all of the grounds run to the meter fuse? Also I don't believe that I have fried any sensors because I still get rpm and temp on my laptop

Check your ignition switch prior to the meter fuse. Make sure you have power to the fuse.

I don't think that I have power to the fuse but wouldn't that stop my turn signals from flashing on the cluster and also the retractor light?

No, separate circuits.

But atleast in my car when the fuse is removed nothing on the cluster works. I think that there is an issue with the j702t transitor. I'm not sure but I ordered one to see

The connections are only where there is a round dot where the two wires meet. If there is no dot, there is no connection, they just cross.

I am not sure, the guy that originally put the pnp into the car back in like 05 "rewired" some of the harness poorly in the hopes of going taking the car to an event. Their are three blue wires that are all tied together that connect into the meter fuse on the back of the fuse box. One of the blue wires runs to the ignition switch and the other two to the passenger side to the j702t connector which I believe to be the ignitor possibly

Sounds like the person that rewired it pulled +12 off of the hot side of the meter fuse(from the ignition switch) Check to see if you have +12 to ground at that point. The other side of the meter fuse should be a black wire with a yellow stripe. With the ignition on you should get +12 to ground on this wire up to the gauge console.

The Black with yellow stripe is the hot line to the things that are not working. It should be +12 volts to ground. The blue line is +12 coming from the ignition to the meter fuse. It looks as though the PO attached to this line to pick up unfused lines to something else.

Find a good ground to attach one leg of your voltmeter to then test both sides of the meter fuse, then if you get +12 on both sides follow the black with yellow stripe up to the console and make sure you get +12 volts there
