[Solved] FAB9 CoP spark blowout
So I installed the kit. Took the caps off after realising you need to do that.
Started up first time perfectly. Try to get into boost or rev high. Blowout, sounding like launch control just rapid popping going rich TS shows LC and flatshift deactivated. Tried a pull on a highway. Blowout. Wat? https://forums.oneplus.net/attachmen...ge_2-png.5804/ |
Whats your gap and dwell setting?
|
are the cops actually seated on the spark plugs? I had blowout which turned out to be a plug wire not fully seated.
still ran like 15psi without a problem because LS truck coils. |

They are on there, thy don't sit flush or anything. I'll take a quick picture I was going to do truck coils but my MS2 can't sequential. :( I'm trying to look at/post datalogs but my tuning computer is garbage  |

I honestly feel stumped now.
Datalog isn't really showing anything to me |

I'll try and take pics later today but my engine is out of the car. |
they definitely don't look like they're on all the way.
|
What, you have to He-man them?

You did take the little changadera off the end of the spark plug, correct? |

They are supposed to work with the stock ECU as dwell is supposed to be handled by the external ignitor module thing. I was under the impression that it does not matter what you set dwell to in the ECU, the igniter is going to do what it wants. Maybe Fab9 can jump in here and clarify.
|
What ECU are you using? A couple of MS guys were having this exact problem running wasted spark because the trigger voltage is too low to drive our module - equating to a very weak spark.
I'm not a big MS guy but from what I understand it's related to the pull up resistor used on IGN1 and IGN2. |
He's running an MS2 or MS3.

MY engine is out of the car but I threw one of the coils back in to show how far they go into the bore. When you push down you should feel the "snap" as they grab the plug end (assuming you took the end off and left the thread end only).
They seat cleanly and no gap around the coil. https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1403744421 I changed nothing in my MS2 and they've been running fine for 6 months now. |
Hi Bahurd, thank you for chiming in.
We actually switched to a longer version of the coil to help the fitment on the VVT motors. His coils are likely seated all the way down, they will look differently than yours though. |

Also, not that this will have any performance effect - you have the coils mounted backwards. The harness loops to leave the coil connector facing towards the front of the car.

Yeah, I'm just been informed you need time set dwell to 2.5ms.
Dwell was my next guess so I'm currently on the way home to do that. Yeah I took the cap off. I feel some sort of notching. But by the pictures they should go in farther. Well poop. Oh, and why did the harness have to face a certain way? |
The dwell reduction is not likely to solve your problem. It seems to be hit or miss with MS - depending on who built it maybe? As far as dwell goes - I run 3ms with a .32 gap at 26psi.
Again, I think it's a problem with the MS ignition trigger having enough current to properly drive our module. I've seen this twice now. There is a fix, I'm just not very familiar with the MS boards. Alternatively you can run sequential ignition (this way you're using 4 channels to drive 4 channels on our module instead of 2 MS channels to drive 4 on our module). If I find some spare time in the next couple of days I'll do some reading, otherwise I you could contact the ECU manufacturer/builder. |

Dwell: 2.5 didn't do anything My ecu is MS2PnP, which from my understanding can't do sequential ignition. I'm running 36-1 toothed wheel. Everything is fine low rpm no boost. I'm uploading a video of it now. You can enjoy my fat face! |
