.060" copper headgasket

Hi guys first post here! Unfortunately my cometic mls took a dookie after 3 weeks of use. I am running 8psi right now but will be bumping up to 15 psi max later on in life. My buddy running an sr20 said he loves his copper gasket. So my question is should I get another mls from cometic or get a custom .060 copper gasket? Also what do you guys torque your gasket too? Thank you for looking guys. Looking forqard to being swayed!

OEM gaskets are good to 25psi with ARP studs. Cometics are good until the block asplodes. There was something wrong elsewhere. The likely hood that it was a design or workmanship flaw in the Cometic is about the same as winning the lotto.
Do over.

Thank you for the advice I appreciate it! Do you torque your head to factory spec or a little heavier? Thank you again?

Copper headgaskets are awesome if you plan on draining the coolant out of the engine when youre not using it

OEM bolts should use OEM torque spec. A lot of us use ARP as Emilio already stated. If you were going to buy a custom gasket, spend that cash on ARP studs instead.

Factory bolts get torqued to __________ ftlbs.
ARPs get torqued to _________ ftlbs.

Fill in the blanks with what you think would be logical.

the specs are top secret. they could never be found by doing any sort of basic search

18psi 10-06-2017 10:38 AM

You've been on fire lately.

Yeah, but the penicillin cleared it right up.

So I went with a cometic Mls and warranteed my Arp studs. The issue was in the fact that the shop doing the work torqued the head to 40 ftlbs which they insisted was the factory spec. Sorry to take so long to update! Redid all the work and just passed the breakin period on this motor. Because of this scare I have lost any confidence in my motor and I'm having another motor built by a different shop. Thanks for all the help and the MT.NET styled welcome! Loving this site!

ryansmoneypit 06-06-2018 09:46 PM

Crazy. Isn't 40 even less than OEM spec?
