1.6 breather nipple (yes nipple)
 

I am installing a bottom mount turbo manifold who's front runner is EXTREMELY close to the breather fitting that comes out of the valve cover on the 1.6. Does anyone know how this fitting attaches to the valve cover? I was hoping I could put a 90 degree elbow in instead so I could attached a hose/catch can to it without running into clearance problems with the manifold.

Any help is appreciated.

Does the Capri valve cover have the breather valve in a different spot? Too lazy to check.

im almost positive. remove the baffle and look behind it. I'll do it tonight if you're too lazy if/and i actually remember.

I remember attempting to take a baffle apart on one of my engines. It may have been the 1.8 when I added the AN fitting though, but either way the baffle was too difficult to remove and seemed to do a good job keeping oil inside the engine. I run that port open on my 1.8.

I have some pics of my engine bay with that manifold but they are on my parent's computer. It's that old ;)

EDIT: Looks like that port just pulls out. I now remember using a vicegrip to yank it out. I ended up tapping it with pipe thread and running a barb fitting. So you should be able to do the same and use a 90deg fitting or whatever.

Like Tim said, it's pressed in. Pull it out with a vise grip.

what the fuck. I have a 1.6L valve cover that I took pics of last night, just forgot to download them.

The fitting is removed and the bung is threaded. I was able to screw a 1/8" fitting into it about halfway, so whatever the metric equivalent is should be the correct one.

Unless whomever had the valve cover before me tapped it himself...

I'll break out the vice grips and give it a shot this weekend. I'll try to unscrew it first (purple nurple?), and if that doesn't work I'll try the "pull as hard as you can" method.

The fitting is not threaded. I think I'm going to try and jbweld a piece in there that'll angle the hose away from the manifold.

Figured I'd update this thread with the solution incase anyone needs one in the future.

I'd first like to say that the "best" way would be to take the valve cover off and tap the hole to accept a standard fitting. I didn't want to take the valve cover off so I went for solution #2 (i'll probably end up tapping it once I decided to do the timing belt and water pump).

As you can see from the pictures, a vice grip was used to pull the old fitting out. I went through a couple ideas on fittings and settled on this chrome tubing that I found at home depot (Home Depot Racing FTW). I believe it's used for exposed water lines under pedestal sinks etc. I ground down the end slightly until I could force-fit it into the hole. I bent it to face the front of the car, I'm planning on picking up a catch can and mounting it either to the front of the engine or the side where the extra tapped hole is off the head. In either case, 1 problem out of many solved.
