1.6 turbo build

I am 17 and doing a 1.6 turbo build. to make sure the miata is what i want im doing research and talking to people that have done the build. I know a good bit about miatas and mechanics. But im going to do a complete rebuild of a 1.6 because the bottom end holds up alittle better with boost. i want to do turbo pistons, turbo rods, cams, valves, springs, get the head ported and polished, and anything else i can think of while its tore down. What do you guys think about it?

southernmx5 05-17-2011 05:22 PM

Post in the meet and greet section and read the faq.

Pending on what your goals are for the project, you may not need to upgrade all of the components. The FAQ is a great spot for answers though. What are your expectations of the car..???

You sure you're talking about the miata?

Vashthestampede 05-17-2011 05:58 PM

She moves in mysterious ways.

BrianBaker0302 05-17-2011 06:07 PM

Yeah I'm talking about a miata. Haha

BrianBaker0302 05-17-2011 06:09 PM

I'm looking to squeeze about 350hp out of it. Money is not an object.

Techsalvager 05-17-2011 06:12 PM

if money is no problem you better be making more power than that

southernmx5 05-17-2011 06:14 PM

Why build a 1.6 when the 1.8 is better?

Who says its better? Loser.

BenR 05-17-2011 06:22 PM

Money is no object? If that truly is the case my starting point wouldn't be a 90-93 miata.

BrianBaker0302 05-17-2011 06:35 PM

The 90 to 93 is the lightest model and the easiest to find parts for. And the 1.6 has a stronger bottom end. So, it holds up better with higher psi.

BrianBaker0302 05-17-2011 06:40 PM

If I wanted rediculous power, I'd go 13b twin turbo .

BenR 05-17-2011 06:42 PM

Ok, which one of you assholes are trying to troll the forum? The only thing you missed was drift in the name.

Wrong. The 1.6 block is no stronger then the 1.8 block.

If money is no object give Savington a call at Track Speed Engineering and tell him what all you want and he will get it made. You will be broke afterwards.

Handful of Peter.

elbeezy 05-25-2011 02:16 PM

My friend has a turbo 1.6 and so far there's nothing wrong with it. He had it for 6 years

southernmx5 05-25-2011 02:18 PM

Lol what the fuck?!

/thread already!

fxmd-mx5 05-26-2011 04:10 AM

i have built 1.6l , and im making just under 360whp , no need to do a 1.8l swap , just spend the money on the right parts and have someone put it together for you , i went with corilo rods , cp pistons (special order) , billet main caps, ARP bolts , Cometic HG , supertech valves retainers and springs , HKS cams 264/264 , this is all toy need to make 3572hp for 4yrs now including track time .

Weaver 05-30-2011 07:32 AM

LS1 swap + Turbo = WIN.

(90-90 Miata ÷ InfiniteMoney) + (LS1 swap + Turbo˛) x (the bitches you'll get from owning it) = MEGAWIN

I know this is years later, but could you tell me how much it cost to make this build. I showed this to a guy who biulds miatas and he said it would be like $10k. I looked up the parts/prices and I was a lot cheaper than 10k...so I dont know

What's with all the old threads getting dragged up by new guys lately?

ace-dragoon 11-12-2015 10:48 PM

Why

I'm looking to do a build on my 91 and have been doing research and talking with people, to be honest I don't think you realize what your saying in wanting to get 350 horse out of 1.6. As has already been mentioned you would be wise to go with the 1.8. Displacement makes a difference, you can only do so much with a 1.6, think about it. You have received several recommendations on this, proceed with caution.
